Straight answers please. Estimated taxes: yes or no

You only should be worried if you don't want to pay any interest penalty on underpaying your taxes throughout the year. If you don't mind that, then there is nothing to worry about. Any income applies to estimated taxes.

    MOC orders for larger size

Write a program to search historical closes versus the last minute of trading then. You'll find plenty of examples.

Straight answers please. Estimated taxes: yes or no

If you are sure you are going to make a profit for the year, then paying estimated taxes will save you money in terms of paying interest penalties come tax time. If you aren't sure, then maybe it is best not to pay anything until tax time rolls around. In my book, there is nothing worse than...

    MOC orders for larger size

Just look at a rebalancing day and you'll see some bizarre closing prints. In my trading career, I have seen numerous examples of what you are saying does not exist. But I can't pinpoint a specific example for you. In my opinion, an MOC order is like playing russian roulette. I would use LOC...

IB 's risk navigator and combo bid ask prices

I also have a lot of symbols on my API page on TWS (probably between 20 to 100 symbols depending on the day). Maybe that is a common denominator between us on why we are experiencing this delay. Do you have a similar setup elt894?

    MOC orders for larger size

Why don't you build up size and see how it goes? I'd still use LOC if it is possible for you to do so.

    MOC orders for larger size

You'll get the closing price but whether or not you influence the closing price with your order is the question. How about a LOC order instead, just for some protection against absurd fills?

IB 's risk navigator and combo bid ask prices

Yes, I think you are correct. Am hoping IB can track this problem down quickly.

IB 's risk navigator and combo bid ask prices

Unfortunately I do specify the conid in my orders and I still occasionally get the 10-30 second delay.

IB 's risk navigator and combo bid ask prices

And this may not be related but when I type symbols into TWS to bring up stock symbol lines, usually a dialog box pops up immediately giving me a list of contracts. For example, I'll type "MSFT" and it will bring up the following list: MICROSOFT CORP - NASDAQ Stock (SMART) Stock (Directed)...

Can't log in to IB account management or TWS

I don't have this problem when I login to account management. My TWS session is unaffected. Is there an option when you login to your account via browser to *not* have trading access? Just guessing here but maybe when you login via browser you are in trading mode somehow which interferes with...

Sorry about your problems, but at least your posts are always fun to read.

    Best programming language for trading?

I think you have a rosy view of big firm's production applications. I've seen some god awful frontends that are complete garbage. Most likely these big firms would benefit from using more modern programming languages for a large portion of their code base and then optimize the parts that need...

K-1's on ETF's if I daytrade or sell short

This might be true for Proshares, but it is not true for all K-1s. Most K-1 providers just delete short entries automatically from their records. Some keep them and if you are ever short overnight, they barf and tell you that the K-1 is in an erroneous state and you have to correct the ownership...

    What is "after-hours trading"?

Apparently even the computers need to take a break based on the liquidity I see in afterhours trading.

    What is "after-hours trading"?

The liquidity is low because people want to have a life and take a break from the markets.

    IB Down??

I also experienced issues last night between 5pm and 6pm eastern time. There was something going on last night that made requests to IB timeout. I could ping www.interactivebrokers.com but trying to browse to their website took a couple of minutes per request. Plus, I got booted from my trading...

Hiding orders in pre-market and after hours

If your broker allows it, you can submit hidden or island orders. Hidden orders are not visible and most likely must be routed directly to an exchange (i.e., no smart routing). Island orders are where only a portion of your shares are visible and they refresh when hit completely.
