Niederhoffer's year end contest! ($2500 prize for 3 best 2011 trading ideas)

Haha, another rather strange "methodology". He really does have a "modicum" of them. @thoreau, you can threaten me all you like, be racist, call me names whatever, i really don't care, we are both fortunate to live in free speech countries. It amuses me. These are my additional thoughts...

I visited years ago. Where did you think I found the "let's short companies with lords/knights on their boards" flawed strategy?

Niederhoffer's year end contest! ($2500 prize for 3 best 2011 trading ideas)

If you want to follow or invest with a "Victor", then Victor Sperandeo is your man, not Niederhoffer. Sperandeo has 45 years of trading experience and has had Soros phoning him up asking him if he would manage money for him (i have no idea whether he plays tennis with him or not, unlikely given...

Niederhoffer's year end contest! ($2500 prize for 3 best 2011 trading ideas)

I recall reading a biography of George Soros some time ago. He said he had invested money with Niederhoffer and the acct did v well. Then whatever Victor was using stopped working and so he (that is Victor) closed Soro's acct down and returned the money to Soros. When asked by the interviewer if...

Ms Thoreau, I demonstrated the error in your definition of " modicum" which you didn't respond to but decided to personally attack me. I cannot waste any further time with you or to advise you further apart from to say you need serious psychological help. Best wishes with your treatment...

Niederhoffer's year end contest! ($2500 prize for 3 best 2011 trading ideas)

Modicum = a moderate or small amount (from http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/modicum) Taleb's quote, "missed just a modicum of methodology". I will translate it for you using the definition of "modicum": Taleb's quote, "missed just A MODERATE OR SMALL AMOUNT of methodology"...

No, but i certainty believe you may be. "While Niederhoffer had a publicized hiccup, some of his trainees fared well because they added rigor and methodology to their statistical inference. In other words, Niederhoffer's empiricism missed just a modicum of methodology." page 101, Fooled by...

AFAIK he no longer trades. In fact, i don't even know who the head trader for the Quantum fund is any more. Not sure if it even matters since, Quantum is supposed to be more of a traditional mutual fund these days.

Niederhoffer's year end contest! ($2500 prize for 3 best 2011 trading ideas)

I think Victor N. is not particular thorough in his research. Apart from selling out of the money puts, he does have some other strategies. One of these was particular bad. He was going to short British companies which had "aristocratic" type figures on the board of directors, for example a...

His results are what they are because he "went for the jugular" when he thought he was right. Fortunately for him he was right a lot of the time!

His fund lost $3 billion. He would have lost money as well since he is thought to own a big chunk of the fund, but it was probably nowhere near $3bn.

Thanks for the links. Do you know when the interview was done? Found it a bit surprising the second video was with David Cameron.

Just a kid looking for advice

At present, we are in the midst of huge bull markets. Forget about HFT and picking up a few ticks here and there. From Reminiscences: “And right here let me say one thing: After spending many years in Wall Street and after making and losing millions of dollars I want to tell you this: It...

    George Soros on Trading

I recall reading a few years ago his biography. If memory serves, he actually busted his own personal acct when he was around about 38 years old. His meteoric ascent really started when he started the Double Eagle Fund (assets of $2m) with Jim Rogers when he was 40 years old.
