Quit prop firm after server side technology issues with API cost me my year; advice on non compete

Not sure why you signed that contract in the first place. But, since you did... I agree with the others, if it is so restrictive it keeps you from earning a living, you may be able to get out of it. Worse case scenario, develop a futures/options version.

Can anyone explain what this guy was doing?

First you'd have to define HFT. Not many seem to be able to agree on one.

Can anyone explain what this guy was doing?

Come on. HFT firms were in the market as the market started dumping. Sarao stopped trading before that. Most of the firms that stopped trading, stopped because a) they no longer believed the accuracy of the quotes, or b) it was some scary sh** going on and risk managers pulled the plug...

Can anyone explain what this guy was doing?

I think Latour, Allston, Athena, and more would disagree with that.

Can anyone explain what this guy was doing?

We clearly disagree on this. There is intent on Sarao's part to manipulate the market. Most "HFT" firms are not doing that. The ones using algos to manipulate should be stopped as well. It doesn't matter if that is in a HFT firm, a guy sitting at home, or a lone wolf at a prop firm.

Can anyone explain what this guy was doing?

It was noticed a long time ago. The CME knew about it. They warned him. The guy ignored them (and made arrogant comments in the process). And the CME dropped it. This was a failure on CMEs part. Why is it an issue now? Your guess is as good as mine. Personally, I think the whistle blower...

Can anyone explain what this guy was doing?

This guy isn't being prosecuted just for canceling orders. He is being prosecuted for a multitude of reasons. I suggest reading the filings.

Can anyone explain what this guy was doing?

First of all. Firms and people that participate in HFT are running all sorts of algos. You cannot lump all together. Those that are showing orders with no intent of getting execution should be stopped. Plain and simple. However, most "HFT" firms are not doing this. There is a big...

    Colocating

Doubt you need colocation for speed. Although I wouldn't count it out for reliability. I don't know about you, but my home internet and power go out occasionally. That is no fun when you are in a position that you'd normally be out of a few seconds or minutes later.

Can anyone explain what this guy was doing?

I don't believe true HFTs are showing huge size like this. These are algorithmic traders, but probably not HFTs. It is true that HFTs are canceling a lot of orders. Especially market making algos. It is not to spoof, it is to try and remain as market neutral as possible. And when you are...

Can anyone explain what this guy was doing?

What do you mean he caused front runners to play into his resting orders? How does that make someone a front runner?

Can anyone explain what this guy was doing?

I think you have this wrong. I'm pretty sure the only thing that was automated was the layering that stayed away from best bid/ask. The actual trading was done manually. You can find this in the documents. I doubt he back tested any of this.

Can anyone explain what this guy was doing?

He displayed large sell orders to drive the price down, so he could buy. then he lifted the sell orders hoping that the price would rise without that selling pressure. He would then exit for a tick profit. And I seriously doubt he fooled any HFTs. More likely it fooled dumber/slower...

UK trader arrested for May 2010 U.S. Stock market flash crash

Most HFT firms are smarter than this. And they aren't going to "front run" an order that isn't even making a trade. It affects algo traders that are relying on unintelligent order book strategies. These are probably not HFT firms.

The NFL banned the genius formation the Patriots fooled the NFL with in the playoffs

They've been "taking advantage of loop holes" for years now. Getting a little old.

    A low latency E-Mini strategy

Gee thanks. lol. As said in the initial post, I realize there would have to be more involved to get it to work, if it would even work. Again, I don't have the data to test it, nor do I have the setup to trade it even if I found something. The point was to stimulate some conversation, talk...

    A low latency E-Mini strategy

Hmm. Wonder why it died? I'd think with all the quick price jumps that happen all day long that it would still be viable. Maybe the really fast guys have gotten too fast to make it worthwhile for anyone else. Well, if I could actually take advantage of this strategy, I would of kept my...

    A low latency E-Mini strategy

Yes, but being near the last in the que may have its advantages? If there are any orders left in that level that you just got taken at, perhaps you can grab what is left (if the original large order wasn't going to push it to the next level), you may just push it over yourself. Or, at the very...
