    The calendar spread

Strangles/straddles are directional trades and IV trades. But mostly directional trades. XYZ at $100 Earnings next month. Directional trader buys a strangle/straddle expecting the stock to move more than enough to offset the cost of the position - he will most likely enter trade close to...

But the strangle/straddle trade would be directional based - not IV based. The drop in IV is irrelevant.

Broker that will allow writing covered calls on equity held elsewhere?

Some sort of legal thing to hold the shares in trust. I'm sure it can be done.

Broker that will allow writing covered calls on equity held elsewhere?

Contact a broker. They most likely are familiar with such the situation and can advise you.

    Is this options order legal?

Why not stick with the 10 contracts and cancel the remaining 10? 10 contracts is better than none if the position goes in your direction. 10 contracts is better than 20 if the position goes against you.

    Rookie Questions on Covered Calls

That's the ideal situation for a covered call. Stock trades flat, you still own the stock, call expires worthless. Look at it this way. You are selling your car for $5000. You give the buyer $1000. He then buys your car for $6000.

    Rookie Questions on Covered Calls

OK ....... So there appears to be a slight disagreement on what "very little risk" is. But I can pretty well guarantee the OP's first covered call will be a bust - very little loss if any, very little profit if any. It will be such a disappointment he will most likely move on to some other...

    Rookie Questions on Covered Calls

Covered calls do have very little risk. The FB example shows that.

    Rookie Questions on Covered Calls

The $1600 loss is no big deal. Giving up all the upside is a concern. Hence my comment from previous post "Once you try one you most likely will not trade them again."

    Rookie Questions on Covered Calls

IMO ..... They have very little risk. A stock going down isn't such a big deal. Brokers even have covered calls listed in Level 1 Option Trading Levels Level 1 Covered Call, Long Protective Puts. Level 2 Long call/put. Level 3 Spreads. Level 4 Uncovered or Naked. ==== EDIT ==== FB at...

    Rookie Questions on Covered Calls

The short call of a covered call is meant to be OTM - you want it to expire worthless. No point in an ITM covered call. Covered calls are too risk-averse. Once you try one you most likely will not trade them again.

    The calendar spread

Depends on the traders view of the underlying. If he expects the move to be more than enough to make up for the debit paid then a long straddle/strangle would be a good idea.

    The calendar spread

The term "calendar spread" is too vague without a trade example and real quotes. Once an example is posted everybody is on the same page and should be able to visualize the outcome of such a trade. Without a trade example then "calendar spreads" are very complex.

Storage of fresh pasta dough in fridge

Bob's Red Mill No1 Durum Wheat Semolina Flour. Eggs. Olive Oil. Small amount of water. I searched online and they say that you can store pasta dough in the fridge for a few days. I am wondering why only a few days? Eggs are good for 1 month in the fridge. I assume the reason is that the flour...
