$10k isn't a whole lot for trading futures. A EUR contract is 125k Euros (62.5k for the mini) so an abrupt move in the wrong direction and you've either stopped out or in big trouble. You can trade forex in much smaller increments. Just something to consider.

The XLE doesn't track the fair value of the underlying stocks as well as DIA and SPY but it's still very likely that if CVX reflected the news, the XLE did as well.

Thanks for the info. I gave it a try and it works. I set up an alert at a price above market (for a currency) and shut down TWS. I then monitored the price on a chart and about 5 minutes later the alert price was reached. A few seconds later I received the requested e-mail.

I'm not aware that IB has any capability to send communication to your e-mail about prices, executions, etc. I can't find it in the software documentation but would be interested to find out from someone else if they are aware of this feature.

My 12/31 report was inacurate was well but it was because not all of the jobs had completed their updates. I ran it again late afternoon and it was fine. Based on the time of your post, I think you might have run it too early.

Look for data on the broker's web site about how well they fill orders. In particular, the percentage of trades that are executed at a price better than the limit price. You might find that higher commissions pay for themselves.

And with IB, you can always view the Audit Trail to see exactly what you sent.
