    Questions about "day trader" status

Below $25k doesn't mean you can't trade. It means you can't be a pattern day trader. I need to know if it's possible a person can be called a pattern day trader even though he hasnt placed 4 roundrippers in 5 days. (Note: Mysteriously, options at IB are valued differently overnight than...

    Questions about "day trader" status

I wired some funds out of IB, leaving less than $25k in securities, and this prompted that my orders are rejected, saying I am a pattern day trader--a bit of a surprise, but here is the real issue... I haven't placed roundtrip trades within the last week or more, yet this is occurring. Does...

    IB: "seek price improvement" selection

Under: Page--> Layout --> Order Columns--> Order Attributes, there is a selection of "seek price improvement". Is this relevant to stocks? To options? I.e. what is the difference between with and without this selection. Thanks in advance.

Is your broker now charnging you index options exchange fees?

I have been getting index options exchange fees from IB in my activity statements (under "unbundled commissions" which is a misnomer) over the last month. They amount to about $.50 per option contract, which is something shocking. Have you been getting the same with your broker?

IB is charging about $1.00 (not $.25) for certain penny options!

For certain options like SMH, IWM, MNX, etc, IB shows charges on your daily trades of about $.43 or so for them. But it seems they have another fee of about $.50 or so per options which they call "exchange fees: and label under "unbundled commissions". IB says these fees were in place for...

Interesting concept, is this just an idea? Or have you heard this from a source?

Bid & ask at opening bell

Why do I rarely see my order at opening bell? Is that the same with your broker, or that just with IB?

    IB: I can't log in...

Over the weekends, usually at 12:00 pm one is able to log in; now it's 2:40 hours later and still, nothing cooking by me. Do you have the same issue?

    Newbie shorting GBP vs USD

Doesn't it ever happen in forex (like it does in stocks) that smart traders load up at certain baselines, not realizing their counterparties are powerful market makers, who then rook them?

Removing & adding liquidity charges by broker

I have been charged several hundred dollars by IB on my activity statement under "unbundled" fees, which they said comes from exchange charges primarily from removing liquidity--something I have never had or heard of before. They directed me to their website under fees or commissions, under...

    Newbie shorting GBP vs USD

I'm going with the premise there would be a degree of intraday manipulation to stop people out, but that this would have a limit how far they can go (or would go noting it's a small trade). No thought as to a limit?

    Newbie shorting GBP vs USD

If I am right that the trend of GBP vs USD will bring it from 1.50 to 1.40 over the next week, but within the trend , how big may the intraday fluctuations in the wrong direction? I.e., if I will short 17,000 GBP, and the margin rqrmt is 40:1 or 4,250 pounds, what buffer would you recommend so...

    IB & forex

Thank you. Just tested it now. For 100k units, to short at 1.47527, and to close at 1.45527, it shows a profit of 2950.54, which makes sense. If I placed this trade with 10% cash, held it for one month, will I be paying interest on the other 90% or not. (Note: I acknowledge the comment of...

Does using margin on forex mean the same as by stocks, i.e. borrowing funds from broker & pay?

Thanks much. What is the issue with TWS? Is that relevant only to day traders?

    IB & forex

I have almost no experience with forex, but would like now to place a trade with IB, shorting sterling. Can someone tell me how much it costs with IB, the minimum trade/unit size, and what amount of leveraging is allowed (alternatively, a link with IB). Thanks in advance.

Constructive criticism or protest vs IB's way of cancellation fees.

In spite of this protest, I still use IB because of its advantages. 1. IB's cancellation fees from the exchange are offset on a 1 fill versus 1 cancellation basis, even if the order size is 1 option; but we get only partial credit, and often takes an order size of 15 to offset a cancellation...

Repeal of the Uptick Rule: A Planned Program to Obliterate the Stock Market

Totally amazing how low certain stock can go, then go even lower. Tons of intelligent traders have gotten wiped out as a result.
