I'm living in Austria/Europe, so I have an EUR-based multicurrency account. On a german Board I read today that these accounts (based in EUR) are not SIPC-secured - that worries me a bit. But left that aside it works fine. You do not even have to change money if you only daytrade. But I think...

1. If you want to open a new position, you can take the other broker. 2. If a stock is not on the short list of IB, you can take the other broker. 3. Theoretically it should be possible to buy a stock at the other broker you have shorted with IB - but the question about "boxing" is a good one...
