    CTA advertising

It depends whether you are a full NFA member or if you follow the 4.7 Exemption to only deal with QEP (rich guys). Most of the limitations to CTAs and CPOs disappear when you deal under a 4.7 Exemption.

Interactive Brokers suffers $22m market making loss

There are many markets where options are not liquid, e.g. Cocoa, Soybean, etc. and where most of the volume is still done over the phone or through a human broker / chat. Options MM try to make a market for these illiquid markets and hedge it with futures or by back-to-backing it with other...

Facturing in Spread in Order Placement

No. Normally, your stop orders are triggered by the last deal traded and not by the best bid or ask. So your SL at 11 will be triggered when 1 lot trades at this price or lower.

Broker problems during stock market crises?

    1. This is one of the big advantage if you deal with a PB such as ADMIS, NewEdge, etc. they're quite expensive but if the exchange halts, you can close your position Over-The-Counter and sleep well until it re-opens. 2. During 9/11 the exchanges halted. 3. You have no right. Conveniently...

What do you consider a good yearly return? (In percent)

A Sharpe of 1 over the long term net of 2 and 20 is very very very good, e.g. Most multi billion dollar funds are between 0.6 and 0.8 Your percent amount is subjective, anything with a Sharpe of 1 will make you 10pc per year with drawdown of 8pc every 7 years... Or 30pc a year with dd of 24pc...

    Gold and Silver for Life

If a strategy is really good that is it generates risk-adjusted return comparable or above hedge fund returns over a long period of time, you probably wouldn't pay 15k$ but 1m$ for it. Buy 6 futures long and sell 10 puts, you just bought below market value, if you exclude your gamma from the...

    Performance decay on equities strategy

So you've been flat for 20 days and you think it doesn't work? Just look at any other hedge fund, people have drawdowns for 1 year, 2 years, and are still profitable in the long run. What you should look at is how robust your approach is, what was your research process, what was the room for...

Is the British Government open for business? An alternative to cuts.

It's already the cases in the few assets that the government have (that is, services that don't suck). Dubai bought the FCA's regulatory framework many years ago and then managed to break it into unmanageable pieces.

Large investors, family offices and institutions risk perception

So how much money can you manage? Institutions (not family offices) will like to be 5% to 10% of your asset base and usually have a minimum ticket of 25m meaning they won't give you less than 25 and you need to be managing 500 for them to give you that. 1. Do you have 500m? 2. Can you manage...

why you or active money managers cannot outperform the market

If you actually listen to what the guy says, this relates only to mutual funds and stock pickers. Hedge funds = credit, distressed, private equity, managed futures, etc. This is far from statistical proof.
