    Who Is A Bad Trader?

In theory, I believe the idea is that with owning a stock, you're actually a fractional owner of the company and thus your shares represent a claim on assets and future earnings. Obviously, not the same as options or futures (zero sum) where every dollar lost on a contract derived from an...

    Advice on Covered Calls

I've never heard of buy-write in this context. I always assumed it was the same mechanically as a covered call, except as you mentioned, the stock purchase and sale is simultaneous. The theory makes sense, IE if the stock goes above the strike/price, the call would be exercised so you end up...

    Advice on Covered Calls

Funny, I was just reading these responses (thanks again to everyone) and was about to ask something along these lines. Selling the np and then writing the itm calls to avoid owning the underlying would have been ideal (sadly, not even cash secured puts allowed in registered accounts). Selling...

    Advice on Covered Calls

Interesting, thanks a lot. I think this would work well if I am authorized to write cash secured puts in that account. Definitely a lot more flexibility and I wouldn't have to worry about owning the underlying. This would be ideal since my plan was to buy issues best suited to cc's, which...

    Advice on Covered Calls

Thanks caveman, is there no situation where holding an issue with the intent of selling upside is advisable? In a nutshell, I grew this account from a couple k buying some stock but mostly outright directionals based on some pretty simplistic macro research and relative vol comparisons. I...

    Advice on Covered Calls

I'm looking for some advice on how best to start developing a model for writing covered calls. I have trimmed my holdings down in my registered portfolio and am looking for guidance on where to start modelling a good stock and covered call program since outrights and covered calls are all that...

    Surf's Special Situation Journal

No one is saying that its not possible to code a rule based system based on "contextual clues", but I believe that it must be extremely difficult. I would imagine the problem would lie in culling the logic down to a level of complexity where it is codable yet keeping the system functional and...

    Surf's Special Situation Journal

I have to concur with surf here. When referring to a series of qualifying trades, and quantifying odds based on those trades, it may be misleading to some when you are the only person capable of qualifying those trades based on your own subjective research and experience. As long as one makes...

Who are the top five stock trading guru's who teach their methods?

I don't think Mark Fisher and the ACD method have been mentioned yet.

TopstepTrader and Patak Trading Partners- Any and all questions answered here

Hi Michael/Mav/CTD/Surf I've talked with several friends of mine and we are all very interested in enrolling in the combine (When Ninja is available). My question is if traders who trade solely outside RTH are suitable candidates? The instrument of choice would be 6E I think I have a...

The Best Prop Firms top 10

My guess is that evo is referring to having a trading company domiciled in a foreign country but not necessarily trading the native markets. The goal being a more favorable tax and regulatory environment. Just an assumption though.

Cooltraderdude's TopstepTrader Combine (daily trade report and journal)

Myself included, which is why I'm very curious to hear an explanation outlining how someone could survive a decade trading with no edge due to an impossibly rigged game.

Cooltraderdude's TopstepTrader Combine (daily trade report and journal)

I'm curious about your 10 years of equities trading that I believe you stated in a prior post. Did you have quantifiable edges in stocks during this period? If so, your claims about a lack of edge due to the zero-sum nature of the game and that all traders are doomed to inevitable failure...

Need help with NinjaTrader chart. Can someone assist?

Good point, maybe try a range chart as well. If that doesn't fill, most likely your feed. Edit: Just saw you're using IB so unfortunately no tick data. I believe you can begin recording your data as historical by enabling that option though. (Others please correct me if I'm mistaken, don't...

Need help with NinjaTrader chart. Can someone assist?

Try right clicking on your chart, open up data series and set "Type" to tick and "value" to 2000. Then on the same menu, go down to "Data" and make sure that you are loading history based on x number of bars or x number of days. The data should refresh correctly.

Anybody have a career related to markets, but no necessarily trading?

You're too hard on yourself my friend! I've had the pleasure of working alongside some incredibly smart people (still do), but not all were fast learners. In fact, one of the people that I turn to for information on a regular basis is a self proclaimed "slow learner". When he started in the...

Anybody have a career related to markets, but no necessarily trading?

Depending on your geography, you'll have some different options. For example I lived in an "energy" city and started as a nat- gas scheduler then worked my way to trader. Then I moved to a smaller city where that job unfortunately did not exist so I checked out what was available. I...
