What is a good ratio between net worth and trading account size?

99% to trading. 1% for the rest. I would say in all reality it’s too individual. For me my trading allocation is basically any money that wouldn’t require a lifestyle change or sacrifice to that lifestyle if I lost it. Depending on ones situation I would suggest following the recommendations...

The Best Book About Chart Trading?

I know this thread is getting old But “Steve Nison” work for understanding candles. Books or videos Some of his video stuff can be found on youtube also if you’re willing to dig deep enough. “Technical Analysis of stock trends” by “Edwards and Magee” for chart patterns. Since you mentioned...

Moving Averages with Machine Learning Boosting

From what I have been taught, what I’ve read, what I’ve noticed in forums this is my thoughts concerning MAs. So typically when people use moving averages the ones that have rational thinking use 5(one week of data) 10(two weeks) 20(aprox a month) 50(2ish months) 100(Aprox 1/2 year) 200(aprox 1...

    AAPL - Earnings May 1

All front month contracts This month was 170 to 175 bull call. Positioned a few days prior to earnings bought for 1.30 looking to get as close to 2x as possible want 3.90 actually morning of set a limit sell at 4.20 fed later that day created a volatility spike and I decided that 4.10 was good...

For speculative trading, are there any real advantages to trading ETF's vs ETF options?

I’d truly suggest OP to practice both at the same time on the same set up and exit and see witch nets OP better. Take a position in outright shares and an options contract out and see witch performs better.

    AAPL - Earnings May 1

100% gain on 2% is 2% 200% gain on 2% is 4% 300% gain on 2% is 6% 100% loss on 2% is -2% So therfore in this scenario of APPL last earnings I paid 1.30 and closed at 4.10 over a 200% gain, without waiting til expiration. Therefore if I’m getting 2/1 it would take 2 losers to wipe out one...

    AAPL - Earnings May 1

Ya technically you’re right If I risk 100% on a 2% position size yes I’m looking for a 200% plus gain. But realistically a 4-5% percent move in the underlying can create that. And ya I don’t disagree if Apple disappoints technicals are out the window short term. If it’s not enough to reverse...

    AAPL - Earnings May 1

I tend to notice that catalysts tend to accelerate the technicals if they both align. In my opinion a positive surprise would shorten the time Apple gets back to $180.

    AAPL - Earnings May 1

No one here straddled it was all long one leg or verticals. Right the probability of straddles/strangles is a losing proposition because it’s too expensive, selling them is a flawed strategy too. Sell enough insurance then when catastrophe comes in you’re screwed. Therefore you take the bias get...

    AAPL - Earnings May 1

You position to lose 2-3% of your account based on a 20-30% loss so what’s the difference of positioning a 100% loss to 2-3% of account value? So you allocate 2-3% instead of 10% Not only that realistically the option would still have some value after earnings so the real R/R was probably...

    AAPL - Earnings May 1

nasdaq.com also has earnings history for free Then it’s quite possible to take that information and look at charts and see if the follow through is more than a day or not, often times the follow through lasts more than a day. 50/50 with greater than 2/1 R/R works for me, usually look for 3/1...

For speculative trading, are there any real advantages to trading ETF's vs ETF options?

These are indeed some of the downfalls to options but on the most traded ETFs options should have enough liquidity until you start to get into multi leg strategies you’ll notice less liquidity. As far as less risk, depends how you use them. I didn’t read the article but in studies I’ve seen...

For speculative trading, are there any real advantages to trading ETF's vs ETF options?

There’s good and bad about both. Outright trading the ETFs tie up more capital, you can position size for assumed risk but can’t 100% know it for sure because of gaps if you’re holding more than intraday. But Your delta is truly 1(100)and you don’t have other variables working against you...
