IB 1099-B appears to have many errors

The biggest issue I've found is that 2010 trades have not been taken into account in the wash loss calculations. I guess theoretically IB might have to go back years, but at least bootstrapping the process by including 2010 would have been a nice way to start the process. Other than that, my...

    Prize for the 3MMth post

I also like the idea of being able to buy a coffee mug or something like that. I've met all but one of my trading buddies on ET. Those relationships have in a very real sense changed things for me. A coffee mug, when I get up at 4:30 here in CA, would be a good reminder (I'd be happy to pay...

Turns Your Phone Into a Desktop Computer

I just want to point out the Motorola on e.g. the Droid 4 ships what they call the WebTop. It's surprisingly good for coming off a phone via e.g. HDMI. Definitely a possibility to avoid carrying a laptop in certain cases. Maybe get a small BT keyboard and use a LCD TV.

A list of all scam unregulated 3rd party educational vendors

edbar, I find it fascinating that you post a positive review (pretending to be a user) about CoolTrade, defend it here, and then in your profile have yourself listed as the CEO of CoolTrade. Maybe not entirely unbiased or am I missing something?

Facebook IPO will be big success. But they track your activity even after u logout!

it takes more then deleting your browser's cookies. Finding and eliminating their super-cookies is nearly impossible.

When does IB deliver it's tax forms online?

Does anyone know if TurboTax supports intraday trades? Last time I tried (might have been 3 years ago), TT didn't have a notion of an intraday trade and apparently randomly assigned long/short to intraday entries. A big mess and what essentially kept me tradelog customer for Sch D alone.

Help in finding Venture Capital please

That's not how it works. To raise funding you need to have your first set of paying customers or a large user base. The days of getting funded based on a prototype or napkin idea are gone (unless you're a Stanford PhD with connections). So spend the next year building the business and get to...

IB SMART routing and BATS rebates

Another choice is to choose the SMART strategy that favors rebates over other factors. Last time I looked there were several choices for Routing, other than the default settings for SMART.

Spreadsheets of prices instead of charts?

I think this is a very good idea. I like to use IB's TWS, which essentially looks like a spreadsheet. I find it very useful to put up all the futures and indices I track and just look at the numbers. While I look at charts for system ideas and to check things from time to time, I today mainly...

CPU usage haywired when laptop power unplugged

Click on the "Resource Monitor" button in the lower right and go through all processes that take CPU, DISK, Networking etc. The Resource monitor is a fantastic tool on Win 7. It's the only way of finding it. Edit: you can also look through the Event Viewer and see if anything seems to be...

    local extrema detection

FWIW - I've found a 4-period WMA to be one of the best short-term smoothers. I'd say the lag is about 1 bar. I'd do that before I do any peak-detection. I realize the choice of '4' isn't especially scientific, but it seems to work well. WMAs have good spectra.

The curse of systems trading/Why does this happen

Here's my take on the situation - I think there are multiple issues in play 1. Have you tested over sufficient amount of historical data? I would say that unless you have 1000+ trades in simulation, you haven't. For one currency pair I'd likely be OK with 100, but that's highly specialized...

ecc ram vs. non ecc ram

The primary benefit of ECC memory is that you'll be notified if you have a memory error (i.e. faulty memory chip). In many cases a dead cell may only be hit from time to time, so without ECC you'll never really see the error other than maybe a corrupt file and an unexpected crash. With ECC (if...
