Correlation between USD and Dow -

Thanks. Haha man I probably should have been able to find that on my own!

Correlation between USD and Dow -

I only recently started watching the USD/market correlation. I was wondering how strongly the two were correlated prior to this year?

    USD up, Dow up

Most likely the Dow. I think the USD is the driving force in the relationship, not the other way around.

    USD up, Dow up

I wonder how long this lasts?

    Markets correlation to the dollar

Surely you guys noticed that the sell off of the last 20 minutes correlated to a rise in the dollar. How much longer can the market keep up this inverse correlation? For a long time? Somehow this strikes me as unhealthy - the Dow and S&P can't keep tracing the dollar. Is the whole rally built...

Bank of America Out of TARP

What's the difference between raising capital with common equity, as opposed to with preferred equity? Obviously in one case they're selling common shares, and in the other they sell preferred. But common shareholders will be diluted equally either way, right?

    So...how about that BAC offering?

I think the market priced in some sort of secondary offering. BAC did raise about $1b more than originally thought, and they sold at $15/share. This is worse than the market was expecting, don't you think?

    Covered Calls

Ok, so I have a question about selling puts (or calls) on margin... One of my friends back in the day used to brag that he'd sells tons and tons of calls and puts on "boring" stocks, knowing that he'd never get called on them. I don't keep in touch with him much anymore, but he claimed that...

    Bank of America

I'm not a full time trader by any means. The position size in this case isn't a terribly big deal to me, which is why I decided to roll the dice on the next six month rather than selling for a loss (lack of discipline?). But still, every loss sucks, which is why I'm hoping to salvage...

    Bank of America

Without looking at my account ... I think it was like $1.6-$1.70 if I remember correctly.

    Bank of America

Yeah, except I got sucked into the 20 calls. It was slightly before earnings, the stock had been consolidating and the 50MA had crept up under it perfectly. I was expecting good earnings and a breakout to ~20. Additionally, the open interest on the calls I bought went from like 3k to 12k in a...

    Bank of America

I am (foolishly) holding a couple of OTM May calls for BAC. Hopefully the TARP repayment that was just announced drives the stock up in the next few months. The way I see it, the good news is that they probably won't be raising capital (i.e. diluting equity) in the near future. Also, this...

    Covered Calls

Why is that? Are you speaking about the dividend stocks in particular, or all stocks in general?

How low can the dollar go?

It's getting kinda ridiculous. I just realized we're down 20% over the past year vs. the Euro. I know its great for the stock market, but something tells me there's a limit, right?

Bullish or Bearish on the Dow?

I'm having a tough time deciding. There's definitely some bullish action, as evidenced by the fact that the last 5 bearish days all ended up significantly off the lows. But, the bull can't seem to move past the ~10,430 Fib 50% retracement from high to low. Today was a good step towards a...

    Long term value investing

I have a question about this: The market is always pricing in the expected earnings, not the past earnings, right? So, even if you can accurately predict the next couple of quarters of earnings, the stock will always be valued at what the market EXPECTS the FUTURE earnings to be. The...

    Covered Calls

Hey everyone, I'm looking for a stock to sell covered calls against. To be specific, I'm trying to find a stock that pays a dividend, isn't a tiny and unstable company, and has enough IV to collect a decent premium on. My first thought was MO, but that's got virtually no premium to sell. MCD...

    Question about inverse ETFs

I was wondering what the ETF is holding to create a 1x or 2x inverse effect? Also, I read in a thread below that they have time decay - that suggests to me they're holding options. Would it make sense to buy puts on an ETF that I think is going down - would the inherent ETF time decay help...

Does this twist on dividend capture work?

The recent thread about dividend capture got me thinking ... Could I buy a lot of ITM calls on a dividend stock - let's say Altria for example. Then, I exercise the calls on the day of ex-div...the twist though is that when I exercise, I do so on margin - that is to say, I don't have enough cash...

    Dow Futures

Yeah, just saw the Dubai news. I was away from the computer most of the day yesterday and today, and when I came back the first thing I noticed was the Dow Futures. Not until after that post did I actually check the news.
