    Simple app scripting language?

I was able to create an app using C# in Visual Studio in a few minutes: There are no calculated fields as I don't know your exact calculation but adding that functionality would not be difficult. If you're interested you can DM me and I can share the code with you.

There are more unicorns than ever

The value for unicorn should be adjusted based on inflation. Of course there will be more unicorns now vs. years past since the value of things have gone up but they're not adjusting their benchmark upwards. Assuming a bubble based on this is misleading.

S&P 500 from 1789 until today: free data

The worst drawdown of 86.1% was during the stock market collapse of 1929 occurring in June 1932 - yikes! Other significant drawdowns: Apr 1942 - 76.6% Feb 1843 - 71.4% Sept 1859 - 60.8% Mar 2009 - 56.8% (financial crisis) Aug 1896 - 50.5% The recent COVID drop of 33.9% in March 2020 pales in...

Extracting Historical Stock Data to Excel Automated?

If you own Office 365 the most recent version of Excel supports a stock data type. You can include the symbols you're looking for in a sheet, identify them as stock data and pull data for each stock on a daily basis. This would require a manual daily update of the prices but is definitely...

How can The Motley Fool claim a return with no sell signals?

The returns they show are based on buying when they recommend buying and selling when they recommend selling. In terms of a real portfolio this is not possible as you mentioned since there are limited funds and a maximum number of stocks you may want to hold. I've had subscriptions to various...

looking for some data sources (e.g. sentiment data)

https://commitmentsoftraders.org/ Summarizes all of the futures activity on a weekly basis. You can use this to see where money is flowing. Do a google search for "using commitment of traders". You will find lots of info out there.

Sources of stocks fundamental data beyond IB and Alpha Vantage

IEXCloud provides a lot of data including fundamentals. I don't think the free version includes the fundamentals but there's an individual license for $9/mth that may be adequate.

    TSX - Historical Data

Difficult to find. I use Yahoo and it's reasonable. I've had to do manual corrections to some data but overall it's not too bad considering it's free. VectorVest does not support any kind of data export features so it's useless for historical data. I got a quote from TMX a couple of months ago...

Tax residency for a true (non-American) digital nomad?

As you can imagine anything to do with taxes can get complicated quickly. You really need to talk to a tax lawyer, one that you trust (they can overcomplicate issues in about a millisecond). You want to make sure you have your ducks in a row before you (hypothetically) become a nomad so it...

IB vs Questrade (9.95$max commission) and order routing question

WealthSimple has $0 commission. Haven't used them but they've added a lot of customers the past year and they get good reviews.

IB vs Questrade (9.95$max commission) and order routing question

Questrade is Canadian so the usage will be limited relative to a very large broker like IB. I use both, but IB in particular for the API and trade automation. I wouldn't trade stocks less than about $10 on IB due to the high potential commission. For higher priced stocks, IB wins out as you can...

SP500 return vs top 10 companies in sp500 returns

Norgate data provides the constituent history at a fairly reasonable price. I don't think this data would include market cap info so you would have to go back over the years and figure out the top 10 companies at any given time. May take a while but it's definitely doable. I know a number of...

The time sequence of high and low in EOD data

This could be a good candidate for machine learning, i.e. pattern recognition. You have a large data set you can use for training and testing and you have a well defined output you're looking for (high/low first). As an added bonus you could add in other data points like volume, index sentiment...

The time sequence of high and low in EOD data

    TSLA

Deferring to experts and pundits is not a winning strategy. They are forming an opinion of future events (which are unknowable) based on their experience. Most will be wrong.

    TSLA

When AMZN was $60 back in 2003 there was no way it was going any higher. Oh wait, it reached $100 in 2007....no way it's going higher. By 2011 it was $240, $400 in 2013, $800 in 2016, $1600 in 2018 and finally $3200 in 2020. Never underestimate the power of compounding. I'm not saying TSLA will...

Confused with lots of metrics, Which Portfolio is best?

A lot of these are statistical measures which means the more data the better. In order for them to be meaningful you need to have a large sample size so the number of trades and market conditions are important. Based on your post I don't know how many actual trades happened in the 4 year period...

    After hours trade

I sold some shares of LMND after hours on Friday for $86.25. This trade did not print when I look at the chart on ThinkOrSwim. Nor does it show up when I look at 1 minute historical price data. The max price I see is $86. Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks.
