Will you buy timmay's hedge fund book?

I just finished reading an advanced copy. It was a quick and enjoyable read. Different readers will come away with different impressions of the author. My take is that you have to commend his audacity at such a young age but at the same time shake your at his inflated view of his...

    Reuters Powerscreener 3.0

yes but the power screener let you do some pretty advanced stuff like designing your own variables and had no limit on the amount of data you could export to excel. It will continue to be around for current subscribers til September. Then kaput:mad: Anybody here a subscriber to Thomson...

    Reuters Powerscreener 3.0

I just got an email saying they are discontinuing its service and refunding customers subscription dollars. It was easily the best of its kind available outside of the institutional-priced screeners. I have Zacks, its good but not as good. Changes to analyst earnings estimates are a key...

Bright Trading are a competitor of them and yet speak quite highly of Echo. That must count for something.

Anyone here take CAIA? I am thinking

I too am a CFA holder and my initial sense about that is they left the bar too low in terms of exam difficulty, especially the derivatives and quant side of the exams (this was more than 10 yrs ago that I took it). The sample questions for caia test II look incredibly simple and I curious...

Human Equity Analysts challenged by Quants

nitro, your posts are intelligent and add value IMO, thanks regarding edgetradings question, there are lots of retail/non-pro traders here that as a group gravitate to technical analysis pseudoscience. I'd say its due to naivete and laziness. Some TA can be objectively (mathematically)...

    Starting a hedge fund

and after reading Barton Biggs book if your are still not convinced of the way the industry is going (away from small funds toward huge funds - the so called "institutionalization" of the business), then grab Barrons magazine of March 26th (the weekend before last). Barrons interviewed...

    Morgan Stanley Report

I've been reading his work for more like a decade and I agree that he's one of a handful of credible voices in the international economic forecasting arena. He's the anti-Kudlow if you will, real substance, no theater. He's admitted that he stuck his neck out and has been wrong - sort of...

    Excel 2007

Edgehunter Using RTD on 1600 symbols is fine? I attended a seminar for hedge fund users of Excel last night at Microsofts Manhattan space in midtown I asked a developer if there was any improvement in the CPU usage with 2007 v 2003. 2003 absolutely crushes your CPU in my experience...

    waterfall decline underway?

regarding prime broker or hedge fund blow-up: This on Bloomberg today "Goldman, Merrill, Morgan Stanley are almost "junk", their own traders say" i.e their CDS are being priced right at a tad above BBB- spreads while their official credit ratings are several levels higher well in the...

IQFeed data vs other data providers

ok final note on this While IQfeed really did go far in trying to solve my issues, I had to drop it, here's why. I was attempting to get 1800 symbols with 5 fields of data each into Excel real time. It just crushes your CPU to the point of being unusable. I'm abandoning this for now as...

Anyone going to the NY Trader Expo?

The Best: Altucher. He was great this morning on his quantitative strategies. he writes for thestreetdotcom, FT, wrote the book "Trade Like a hedge Fund" and he manages a fund of funds. The worst: Sunny Decker and his Best Choice Software. All he does is quote satisfied traders who made...

IQFeed data vs other data providers

DTNIQ support is turning out to be really good, they are working with me to slove the problem. I do not mean to be critical of the feed, its possible there is something wrong on my end
