Trader and Modern Psychoanalyst looks at fear and greed

I am also a trader as well a part-time psychoanalytic therapist. My thought is that the concept of counter-transference is one of the most useful pieces of psychoanalytic theory when it comes to trading. As maxpi said above, the object is not to eliminate your 'pesky' emotions but to know...

Need Macintosh Charting and RT Datafeed

Definitely dtniq! I have used IRT for OS X with both mytrack and dtniq. The latter is faster, more reliable and gives more data- especially if you trade options. Yeah, agreed beesoft should get with OS X last year, but its a great EOD program and classic, while not as pretty, is completely...

Why there's no 1000 strike for SPX options?

Options on the S&P 500 futures trade at the CME. SPX options (options based on the cash) trade on the CBOE and indeed do skip the 1000 strike - I have no idea why. Instead there are strikes at 995 and 1005.

    No more bullets per sec

I think you are are dead on. Your point leads to the interesting question of whether the nature of the oversold bottoms we are used to will evolve- certainly there will still be panic selling by longs, but fewer momentum chasing, bullet wielding shorts (again assuming there are enough to matter)...

IB losing the edge in commissions!

re-read what I wrote....I know they are passed through. I am just suggesting a different way to "pass this along" to us clients.

Israel "afraid" of a Free IRAQ?

I agree with what Nitro proposes with one condition. If the US wildly succeeds, beyond any of our expectations, and is able to bring peace to the entire region- ie eliminate all of Israel's enemies, than Israel could benefit as others above stated. However the historic reality is not that the...

IB losing the edge in commissions!

The only thing that ever has me shopping for other brokers are the passed along exchange fees to cancel option orders. So far, I have found a broker that charges as low as 2.95/contract with no cancel fees. I would switch to them for all my trading but prefer the IB platform. Still the cancel...

    Flat panels worse than crt?

No offense taken; I did not design the thing plus agree with you that the bezel and stand suck. Nonetheless they are gorgeous and I stare at them all day... Practical and efficient have never been my main drivers- after all I trade options on the cboe all day. :) Anyway I have 2 of them...

    Flat panels worse than crt?

but imho the finest LCD you will find. Pictured below is the 20 inch with 1680x1050 res. http://www.apple.com/displays/acd20/ btw, I'm 90% sure they will run on systems other than the macs listed if you have the right graphics card and use an adc to dvi converter.

SPX b/o spread size- a real question about "THEY"

Yes, I see it in both.

SPX b/o spread size- a real question about "THEY"

Vulture and Vega, Thanks for your informative replies. What you point out is interesting. The vix has been down for quite a while but this is the first time I have noticed the spreads staying wider like this. While I do not watch the more expensive spx contracts as closely, I have not...

SPX b/o spread size- a real question about "THEY"

I do have one concrete question amid this discussion with and about THEY. :) The primary MM's auto-quoted b/o spread has gone from 1.00 to 1.20 in 5-10 $ spx options over the last week or so. Like I said above, until very recently and other than x week, it was pretty consistently 100$...

    Need Help!

I think Hawker nailed the practical piece which requires strict rules and discipline. Now as to your psychology...... As some one who blew out my first trading account shorting in late 98, can I suggest looking at your psychology around authority and crowds. Problems with your father...

SPX b/o spread size- a real question about "THEY"

I agree that the only way to trade these b/a spreads is to cut them. I have been doing that for years...... But, until now, did "THEY" keep those spreads limited to 1.00 out of their goodness or has there been a rule change allowing them to widen?? Its my impression that cutting the...

SPX b/o spread size- a real question about "THEY"

Well, as far as I know, spx options have been one of the growing contracts taking away volume from oex....

SPX b/o spread size- a real question about "THEY"

I have been trading SPX options on and off for a few years and daily for most of this year. I am used to the regular bid/ask spread to be 1.00 on SPX options priced between 5-10. The last few days I have noticed that it has grown to 1.20 on these same options. I have a copy of the cboe...
