Steady on now! If we can't blame IB who are we going to blame? Methinks WS said something about this...

Paper Trading Vs The Real Deal

PAPER TRADING IS STILL PANTS! That's why it's called paper trading because it's worthless. Worse still it's an art form for some people. An excuse for procrastination. As long as they are paper trading they can still fantasize about success. That's why they all shout so hard to justify...

What Works in Trading & Why: Part I

You're not related to Jerry Olson by any chance? He's all over T2W like a rash. I think your stuff is worthy of respect, look forward to seeing you "walk the walk!"

    Anybody trade 24 hours?

Does anybody auto trade 24 hours? If so which instruments on which exchanges? How realistic is this in practise for the retail trader?

Paper Trading Vs The Real Deal

Have you any idea of the selection process required to be a NASA astronaut? Yes of course paper trading can teach you the controls etc but I'm talking about the bit where most traders fall down - the emotional/psychological part. How can trading 100 contracts on a simulator with pretend money...

Paper Trading Vs The Real Deal

I agree that paper trading is mandatory when it comes to auto trading. But for any other reason it's the same difference as playing Medal of Honor and actually being in the Normandy landings.

    Paper trading now at IB.

After three emails and two phone calls and a week later my paper account was reset. Get this - when I asked the guy at 'customer service' to reset my account because it was millions in debt(due to glitch) and wouldn't allow any trades he said the paper trading account 'wasn't a priority with IB'...

"Dear Trader, Because you fall within the definition of a "Pattern Day Trader" under NYSE and NASD rules, the minimum equity in the securities segment of your IB Universal Account is $25,000. Your order was rejected because you have $-9.99898e+08 in your securities segment. Please...

    Paper trading now at IB.

IB paper trading account has got a bug in it! I put in a market order for 100 shares and the price it gave me was 9999999.01. Seeing as the price was around $32.68 the value of the account is now showing as -585223367.32. Yes thats minus 585 million dollars!!!! Not surprisingly it is...

What should a first time user of IB expect?

With all due respect this thread was about customer service not the TWS platform which most agree has its foibles but is generally excellent. My main gripe is that I would rather spend my time trading than wasting hours dealing with an inefficient customer service. I too thought IB was great...

What should a first time user of IB expect?

How do you clear zero positions in the portfolio window. This is another mystery IB have been unable to solve. Yes I've ticked the box and yes I have the latest version of TWS. After selecting 'clear zero positions ' they do disappear for about 30 seconds then come back. As you can imagine...

What should a first time user of IB expect?

Sometimes they are friendly and human but there are some androids in there. Sadly in my experience whether they are friendly or not I seem to waste HOURS on the phone being moved around depts. being told or promised one thing and it never happening. Two examples. (1) I transferred some funds...

Data feed overload in live testing!?

I have been observing more closely and it seems that after an order has been put into TWS if there is a delay in the order being filled there is also a delay in activity coming back to VB. I don't know if it momentarily freezes the whole system or not. Perhaps a few doevents will cure it. Has...

Data feed overload in live testing!?

Thanks for your replies, I have sometimes in the past hit the 50 message/sec limit but not in this case I am however logging to disk every second and I reckon that this may well be contributing. The trouble is it seems to happen most often when trades are being completed very rapidly and I...
