Trying to start my career as a trader

I think you have done a good job describing yourself and selling your career goals. You have alot of academic accomplishments as well. I think once you get your foot in the door at a good firm, you'll do well, BUT..... You can't have a 3 page resume and you don't have any career experience...

    Breaking Into Hedge Fund Business?

Good question to be honest. I am in the same situation. I want to be closer to the traders, but am doing accounting/operations at a hedge fund right now. If you ask me its not easy making it onto a trading desk at a fund. The guys on our trading desk either have 10-15 yrs of experience...

Just fired. Should I give it a try?

Good options. Other things to also take into consideration. If your living expenses aren't crazy - Not sure how it works in the Netherlands, but when you get laid off in Decemeber here in the US you can collect unemployment. Can probably cover rent and entertainment. This of course is in...

    Primerica

Just as everyone else said a TWA (Time wasting association). They posted an ad in the NY times for a financial planning position or something. I responded and they gave me a call to come into the New Yorker hotel for an "interview". Wasted a good two hours of my night.

    Gambling

What I ment by I have control over it is I know when I have lost enough. I don't empty my bank account to try to regain losses or go for a big score by putting 10k on the passline. If you have seen articles out there. Charles Barkley and some golfer (Something Daily) have lost millions...

    Gambling

I'm not sure if this has been covered or if I am posting in the right thread, but I am kinda curious on how much gambling the readers of ET do. After reading the thread below and gambling was addressed numberous times, it really makes me wonder...

I guess no hockey fans on ET

Being someone who grew up in Edmonton it was hard watching the Oilers get back to the finals after 16 yrs only to lose, but they made it a pretty damn good series. The hitting in game 6 was pretty sick. If Edmonton took that same aggressive approach into game 7 the cup was theirs for the taking.

    should i continue interviewing....

    Agree to disagree.

    should i continue interviewing....

I did this recently. Not exactly your situation. I had to final interviews about a week apart, but the offers came on days back to back. I accepted the first offer verbally, then when the second offer came in (Which is where I wanted to work anyway), I called back and said I changed my mind...

    A good trading firm

Atlas Trading will let you start with 2 or 3k. Atleast they did 2 years ago when I met with them.

    life after college

I graduated college in May 04, bounced around consulting/temp assignments for the first 4 months. Then got a long term consulting assignment at Goldman that was good experience. Interviewed alot while working there since it wasn't permanent and ended up at a hedge fund. I always considered...

    Maxed out credit card.

If you lose it, you shouldn't be trading. I did this and was EXTREMELY careful with it, being its not my money. Didn't make anything spectacular, but I did better than the 0% I was being charged for the "YEAR". Took it out of the market and paid it back, because looking to buy a condo and...

    Maxed out credit card.

Getting back on line with this thread. There are WAY smarter ways to finance your trading account than cash advances. Not that this way is any smarter, but have you people ever heard of balance transfer? Basically open a credit card at citibank and request a balance transfer made out to...

    Symc

I swear sometimes I don't understand this stock. I have bought this stock alot in the past and got lucky all because of after hours trading. Twice during earnings I was holding the position and they released bad results and I was able to sell after hours for a minor loss of my profits. I...

    Wall Street Job-Hunter Chronicle

Saw your thread and have to say admire your job search sounds alot like mine when I moved to NYC from FL two years ago. Basically I went through the same process, emailing recruiters and companies and nothing coming out of it. My first break was working 4 months in a temp job that paid...

    Tax Question

I bought some stock in 1997, sold it for a loss in 2004, but never deducted the loss. Can I deduct the losses on my return this year? I don't have a 1099 for 2005 with these sales on it (since they were made in 2004).

    Atlas trading

I met with them about 2 yrs ago. They are the first prop shop I ever met with. Seemed like a legit place, safe place for your money. I never signed up with them because I was consulting and still am. What I remember is the guy will straight up tell you there are better deals out there, but...

What to do? Let it get called away or Buy to Close?

Thanks for the input. I'll definitely wait as late as I can. I came up with 26.60 as my sell price by adding strike price + premium. 22.50+4.1=26.60. I kept my same basis as 27.80, I'm sure the numbers come to the same.
