Trumps Iranian Sanctions, what is he trying to achieve?

I believe his only motive is keeping his fat ass in his cushy seat.

These numbers show Suze Orman is right about needing $5 million to retire

volpri, I'm very sorry about your daughter. Orman is focused on people who invest for the long term. So, I imagine that for a 40-yr-old, she'd be advising paying off the house (usually bad advice, IMHO, for anyone who is halfway decent at managing money) and using something like a 60/40 fund...

    Fitness causing insomnia

If you are not sleeping a good start is to take a look at what you are ingesting. Any medications, caffeine, herbs, beverages, or supplements that contain stimulants?

are people in the US starting to live like people in 3rd world countries

They have a great marketing idea. My Target/Walmart parking lot (here, they are right next to each other) contains many Mercedes, Lexus, etc.

Low TG and HDL, high LDL, feedback welcome

No one is recommending niacin. Which drug to take (even which statin to take among the several statins) should be decided by the person looking at your cholesterol profile, not whatever Esselstyn has done in his trial. These are individual decisions.

Low TG and HDL, high LDL, feedback welcome

You can't measure the doses of stuff in your food. That's one of the reasons why FDA does not regulate herbs and such. You might get a big dose today and a small one tomorrow. I'm not picking on red rice yeast, this applies to everything. There are carrots with loads of beta carotene in them and...

Low TG and HDL, high LDL, feedback welcome

Yes, but can you really handle Esselstyn's diet? It's healthy but most people don't want to eat that way: vegan, without any oils, not even olive oil. They only get fat from food (nuts, avocados, and such). The diet is a good idea, but I don't know whether it will raise your HDL, which is the...

Trump readying another 267 billion in Chinese tariffs

The Chinese do not think in 2- or 4-yr cycles, and they don't have to answer to any voters (or even let their citizens find out what is going on in the world, as has been pointed out by themickey). I don't think the current administration knows how to focus on the right things, or wants to...

    Probiotics are useless?

I don't think you can just throw probiotics down there without doing some other stuff. A healthy bowel needs to see dark leafy greens, beans, and fruits. These things helps the right bacteria grow. In other words, if one is eating cheeseburgers and expecting to fix their GI flora with yogurt, it...

Low TG and HDL, high LDL, feedback welcome

Most important thing to do here is to try to raise your HDL. Best way to do that is stop smoking (if you smoke). Second best way is aerobic exercise daily. Of course, there are drugs, but your doctor will have to help you make that decision based on other factors.

Do you rely on your trading to put food on the table?

Not fully, as I am still working. I rely on it to put wine, fine food, and first-class flights on the table.

Study: the yield curve is about to invert. What this means for stocks

Yes, I read another article on this some time back, which I believe covered the late 20th century and early 21st. https://seekingalpha.com/article/4130984-yield-curve-investments Author claimed a 1-to-1 correspondence between recessions and inversions. In other words, he said that an inversion...

    Very conservative consistent strategy?

CXO Advisory has just published 20-year results for the SPY:SMA10 strategy (refers to 10-month MA). Compound return 10.1%, SD 10.2, rough Sharpe 0.99, worst drawdown -18%, worst annual return -4.2% (in 2015). No, I can't post it; you have to pay for their site; but you can easily figure this out...

    Very conservative consistent strategy?

This is the most common financial question I'm asked by friends/acquaintances: how do I try to make a little conservative money without taking a chance on losing any of it? Unfortunately, the answer is to buy a mattress.

So-called bond king Gross has been ‘wrong and wrong badly,’ his boss at Janus says

Maybe he is just early. After such a long bull market in bonds, it seems likely we'll get the govt bond short of a lifetime across the developed world in the not too distant future.

There's a 'water bar' in San Francisco that will pour you shots of fruit water, not booze

There used to be a Russian restaurant in Steamboat Springs that had numerous flavors/shots of vodka--anyone else been there? I remember trying black pepper vodka. Nice.
