    Hard To Borrow Lists

FYI... there's not a HTB list anymore. Ever since Reg SHO, there is a long list of stocks which compile an Easy To Borrow list, which is thousands of stocks, compared to the hundreds on the old HTB lists. The problem is, the criteria for becoming "easy to borrow" has made it a bit more difficult...

    big changes at Generic Trading?

About the "moving"... Manhattan real estate is out of control right now... maybe their lease expired, and they can't get a decent deal on their old space. Moving may have nothing to do with cutting costs.

Best Prop Firm At This Point In Time

I know lots of "long-term", which I consider over 5 years in this business, profitable traders. They just don't post on ET.

    Avidus- Genesis

"How does Genesis get orders to the floor? Are they [you] NYSE members, or do they use a third-party, like Jefferies/Helfant?" Yes, I quoted myself. Just curious... someone has to know the answer. And, since the thread was about Genesis, I figure it's relevant. now listening : rush -...

Best Prop Firm At This Point In Time

"Why do so many people get into these pissing matches about prop firms" Boredom, no life, etc.

Best Prop Firm At This Point In Time

There are a few things a "prop" (licensed) trader can do that a "customer" cannot (leverage was already mentioned). But, if you don't know what they are, it's probably not worth talking about. Along the lines of the cliche... "if you have to ask".

Anybody Prematurely Sever Their Prop Trading Agreement?

It's typically got non-compete language in it. Over the years, I've seen a few instances where a trader left and the firm he left tried to enforce the contract. The two that I remember had the same outcome... the new firm had to pay the old firm a bit of cash (I'm thinking less than $30k). This...

I just like that he worked for Blind 'em & Rob 'em.

DWI : Need to report on U-4?

"if they were expunged, it never happened" In theory, yes. In reality... not always. I saw an instance where a trader filing a U4 had to reply to the NASD that the arrest was expunged. He figured it wouldn't appear as a "disclosure" in CRD, but it did. And, the NASD had no problem with it...

DWI : Need to report on U-4?

I was told that, if you've ever been arrested (or, fingerprinted), it needs to be reported. Even if the case was thrown out. I think when the NASD does a fingerprint check, every time you've ever been printed comes up. And, they want an explanation.

    No more .001 scum orders

I've never seen a "rebate" trader consistently profit. If any exist, they are definitely the exception to the norm.

    Shorting on downticks (3/16/05)

The firms I spoke to didn't allow option trades, even the ones that allowed conversions... for those, you have to call/email a desk which sends your order.

    Shorting on downticks (3/16/05)

I didn't want to make this a "are conversions legal" thread. I figure, if my firm allows them, and having spoken with the SEC, and gotten their take, I'm assuming they are ok to use. At least, that's what I'm sticking with, until I hear different. I was just wondering what products/services...

    Shorting on downticks (3/16/05)

I actually spoke to 2 of the lawyers that wrote the rule (was that back in Oct 03, when bullets became illegal?). One wasn't forthcoming, but the other gave me all sorts of detail. He said that conversions are not with the "spirit of the law", because the obvious intent is still to short on...

    Shorting on downticks (3/16/05)

Conversions? You send a single order to: Buy stock, Sell calls, & Buy puts. The options typically have the same strike and expiration, so it's market-nuetral, but you are technically "long", as per the SEC. (Yes, I've spoken to them.) So, you can trade this stock as though you are long, or...

    Shorting on downticks (3/16/05)

How do diffierent firms allow you to short on downticks on listed stocks? I know about Essex Radez (yes, they [rarely] fill on an uptick, to the tape), and I know a few firms allow "conversions" (long stock, short calls, & long puts), but I've heard there are a few other methods out there...
