More Nassim Taleb 24/7 - Virginia Tech Massacre

It's interesting how differently people can see the same thing. To me, Taleb is often profound -- one of the few people I know of who actually understands something about something. But it's difficult to the point of impossible to have a meaningful discussion about this. The divergence in...

More Nassim Taleb 24/7 - Virginia Tech Massacre

I thought that Taleb's thesis was about the difficulty of predictions. He certainly says a thousand times that he doesn't make predictions. Why do you select one speculation on Taleb's part and convert that into his "main prediction"? And how on earth does "computer driven market...

    Bond Yield and Bond Futures

TNX is based on the yield-to-maturity of the most recently auctioned 10-year Treasury note. ZN is based on a basket of Treasury notes maturing from 6 1/2 years to 10 years. It's easy for them to get out of alignment.

'Mind over Markets' or 'Markets in Profile'(new)?

I think tubbs and kiwi are right. The first is a clearer and more direct explanation of the basics. The second is useful for its discussions of actual applications.

Very bad experience with IB¡¯ customer support person

Based on what you have written here, I think probably IB is correct in suggesting that you would be better served elsewhere.

ensign volume profile vs market profile

Esignal charts a traditional market profile. Ensign charts a price histogram with lines representing the various TPO levels. The POC and value areas are indicated. I use Ensign, and the histogram is adequate for my work. It depends on how you are using it. There is a free trial period with...

Market Profile -- who needs it?

I've studied MP quite a bit. Even went to Chicago for some seminars with Steidlmayer a number of years ago. Based on all that, I would recommend starting with the Dalton, Jones, and Dalton book "Mind Over Markets." I actually don't know of any other book on MP that's much good, though the...

    They 40 year old daytrader

My experience has actually been the reverse, for some reason. I'm 63 and have been trading futures since I was 19. In the early, technologically deprived, days I was a position trader by necessity. But, the older I got, the shorter the time frame I traded, until now I'm a pure day...

Quality of IB fills lately - stops

I believe it's 864 as of today, but that's the browser based edition. 862.9a is the latest standalone.

Quality of IB fills lately - stops

According to my understanding, the .5% leeway applies to the trigger, not to the fill. As OldTrader said, the stop becomes a market order as soon as it is triggered and will be filled at the best available price, whatever that is. Let us know if you find out anything helpful from IB.

Quality of IB fills lately - stops

That is really interesting. Since these stops are simulated, I'm wondering if the trigger rules for the two brokers are the same. Possibly the Ameritrade rules activate stops slightly faster than IB's. You might take a look here...

Quality of IB fills lately - stops

Also, while I'm thinking about it, it would be good to know how many trades we're talking about. Even if you are referring to parallel trading, a few cases of worse fills at IB would not be quite significant, but fifty might be.

Quality of IB fills lately - stops

When you say you always get a better price at Ameritrade, do you mean you are trading Ameritrade parallel to IB and the same stop order, elected at the same time at both brokers, always gets a better price at Ameritrade? If not, it is difficult to see how you can compare the two, particularly...

    hibernate & stand by

My understanding is that, most of the time, Standby is either a state (S1) where the caches are cleared and the CPU stops operating but power to the CPU and RAM continues, and the hard drives and video are suspended; or else a state (S3) in which the RAM power continues but everything else is...

    Indicator rainbows

If you mean like a daily RSI and a weekly RSI in the same pane, I'm pretty sure the answer is you can't do it. You can't overlay different timeframe charts, and since the indicator is linked to the chart, that precludes the indicators also. Anyway, I can't figure out how.

    Ensign Question?

I started over and recreated the whole thing. I only trade one futures contract, so it was relatively easy for me. I think the old files can be transferred easily, but I've never done it.

    Ensign Question?

I transfered Ensign to a new computer recently by downloading the software from Ensign and emailing Ensign with the new ID number. They then updated their records as to the legitimate copy. The download works on trial status for a while anyway, so you can do that and inform Ensign later...
