Getting down and dirty is where the rubber meets the road ...

OK. First attempt to group faster fractal tapes into Trading Fractals (TF). The day begins with a carry over TF1 with its FTT on bar 4. TF2 ends at bar 15 with ftt of 3rd faster fractal, creating p1 of TF3. The first faster fractal ends at bar 19 with ftt, and bars 19 and 20 form the rtl of...

So, if I understand correctly, the pink container is our first "trading fractal", and the last bar in your clip (the OB, bar 3 of 4/30) has ve'd and the bar close is not in the zone so we expect to move onto r2r for the next trading fractal (short). I am with you so far. :)

Thanks Jack. You will see on my gap adjusted chart that I have the same two faster fractal tapes that you have - so far so good. What is the green horizontal line on your chart from the high of bar 81?

OK, no problem. I understand that.

Of course. This is why I am trying to ensure that I have correct annotations at the fastest observable level down cold before building the trading fractal above :) Thanks

OK, got that. I see the RTL gets fanned on bar 81 for 4/29

OK got that. We consider sequential flaws to be an aggregate bar and use that with the next translating bar to form the next RTL. Am I correct then in treating bars 16, 17 18 as one bar? Likewise, 22,23,24, ... 35,36,37, ...38,39,40 etc?

Your chart starts with data from the previous day. Bar 8 on your chart is actually bar 1 on 4/30. My chart begins at 09:30 EST. My bar by bar description should be read in conjunction with the chart that I posted, on which I numbered most of the bars.

Bar by bar description of how the tapes were drawn.

ES chart for 4/30 with tapes. If the tapes are correct and consistent then I can move on to draw RTLs and LTLs for the faster fractals. Rubber has contacted road but moving slowly..... let's get this step clear.

Seems to me that you are not considering bar 1 and bar 2 as one bar, as Jack suggests when a sym appears. My interpretation of "treat as one bar" is that we must wait until then next bar forms before we can decide how to draw an rtl. If the next bar is also a sym then I presume we wait for the...

Thanks for your comments Jack. No I am not long biased. I am simply trying to annotate in a consistent, logical and unambiguous way but, as yet, not succeeding. No short or long positions being taken at present. I fully understand the importance of drawing the RTL first. Part of the problem...

Ten cases attached. (courtesy of Spydertrader). Of particular interest is how to annotate to an outside bar. It seems that we can connect the lows and clone to the high of the outside bar, or connect the highs and clone to the low of the outside bar.

Thanks for the comments Jack. My platform (Ninjatrader) did draw the yellow areas for internals but I have updated to beta version 7 and that feature is not yet available. I expect to have it soon. I always begin by drawing my rtl first and then cloning to form the ltl. See attached chart...

I have adjusted the FTT positions on the attached chart. If you think that there are more then perhaps you could post a chart. The problem with the container starting at 15:10 is that it didn't appear to have dom-nondom-dom moves before price began the short container from 15:25.

Getting down and dirty is where the rubber meets the road ...

To identify the trading fractal FTT it is necessary to know that one is drawing correctly the three faster fractals (dom, non-dom, dom), so that one can know that one is travelling from pt3 to FTT. This clearly requires the correct grouping of bars in accordance with a convention that uses the...
