    New IB Features

Not by me, I suppose. Being myself a progammer I know that writing software is not an easy task. And I too have, like IB, customers who report back to me issues in the software I write. So I think it's IB's best interest to know what users perceive about their products and also receive...

    New IB Features

Well, my original worrying was about the fact the previous versions of TWS had popups that stopped the correct operation of API. So, whenever I see a popup opening now, my first thought goes to the possibility that my system could be not working properly, even if in the meantime many issues have...

    New IB Features

As promised, here is an attached image of one popup that I'm receiving repeatedly in the last couple of days, for several stocks. Aside from not being able to disable the opening of the popup, the content of the message is also a little scaring. Your customer service told me that it's normal...

Thanks, dcraig. At least this case doesn't apply to me. The problem is that you cannot know in advance how many such cases there would be, and actually there shouldn't be any. See my previous post in this thread. -GS

    New IB Features

I really appreciate your reply and honestly have to say that latest releases of TWS show several improvements over the past ones. Overall I could say I'm pretty satisfied with IB in general. That said, as you just admitted, there are still several popups left that show up in response to API...

    New IB Features

In this moment I can't say which one, I really don't remember to have seen any recently. But I do remember that in past releases of TWS there were several, even showing in response to API events or non-executable orders, and that would block the TWS unless you closed the popup. So, please let...

Just done. That's really useful, thank you dcraig, I had missed that. Do you know if this prevents *all* dialogs to come up and stop the TWS's normal operation unless you clic 'Ok' or is it just for the connection? I ask because I'm presently still using TWSStart to achieve full automation. -GS

    New IB Features

Yes, that would be the best thing to do. No more need to click 'Ok' on TWS dialogs, either manually or through any other software monitors, more free memory and, maybe more important, a better general sense of 'things that work as they should', of 'right done'. If IB doesn't want to provide...

    Is IB kidding?

I'll have a look at them. Thank you.

    Is IB kidding?

One thing that IB has and many other don't is API, that allows for full trading automation. If anyone knows about other brokers with a commission structure similar to IB and also have an API, please report.

    Is IB kidding?

Probably yes, I really don't know. I generally make more than $30 per month so I don't have this problem. Just take a look in the brokers' section here on ET.

    Is IB kidding?

They charge you $10 per month when you didn't generate at least $30 in commissions that month.

    Yes. No kidding.

Any good book on statistics side of system building?

This example isn't proving anything, or at least not what we were talking about originally. You have to repeat it EXACTLY the same without compounding. If you do, you get 163% after 9 winning months with 7% and then 142% after 3 losing months. Again, by compounding you would have gotten better...

Any good book on statistics side of system building?

    Why? Suppose you have 100$ and lose 7% for three consecutive months, as in your example. Without compounding: 100 - 7 - 7 - 7 = 79$, so you lost 21$. With compounding: 100 * 0.93 * 0.93 * 0.93 = 80.44$, and you lost just 19.56$. As another example, suppose instead you won 7% for three...

If compounding, 7% per month is 225% annualized. Nice return.

My system results... what do you think?

Maybe I didn't explain myself clearly enough. The figure of 1.7% I use in simulation takes into account 2 things: 1) the difference between simulated prices and real fills, that is what is commonly (maybe properly) referred to as slippage; in my case this is very close to 0% on average...

My system results... what do you think?

Well, I've been lurking on this board for a couple of months, then started to like it, very informative. A good complement to WL. Have a nice day. Regards, -GS
