Anyone else think Elliot Wave is a bunch of hooey?

EW has some validity, but strict adherence to the rules ignores the reality of the marketplace. However, Tudor Jones is a big fan of EW theory, and I use it sometimes when I believe applicable.

    %tage winners survey

70% and above seems to be the minimum threshold level to be successful short term traders (hours to a few trading days). Though traders hitting that win% tend to have average win smaller than average loss. If you're really good, you'll hit >70% win, and about equal or greater win amount to loss...

    Trading versus other businesses

That's a good amount to start with in the beginning ... if you start with too much you risk losing it all and not knowing what the hell happened. On the other hand, see if you can gradually build your 30K that to 50, then 100K. It's possible to work a regular job and trade if you can find a...

Learning to day trade, while in university?

I would advise not to day trade, but try to increase your time frame of trade, such as swing trading, so that you don't have to follow the market every moment. Realistically, if you get a job you cannot keep your eye on the market like that anyway, unless you worked for yourself. Personally...

    on fire!

Stock indexes, at least a few hours, but ideally one trading day or more. I don't scalp... I usually don't like to mess around with .25 of a point, and just go at market. But I've gotten in less than 1 hour if something happens that I don't like.

What's the most I can lose?

With leverage you can lose more than your equity if markets move fast enough, such as in limit movs. That's one reason the broker wants to know your other assets, bank accounts, etc.

    on fire!

dang, recently I gotta huge winning streak trading stock indexes... feels like I can do no wrong... past 6 trades have been good( except 1 trade where I let what was supposed to be a short term trade, and let that be clouded by my long term judgment). Just wondering, what's everybody else's...

    ES scalping,is it worth?

Too stressful and too hard. Been there, done that. At a minimum, your method should try to capture a 0.5% fluctuation, so if ES is 1100, then that's 5.5 points. If you're not Marty Schwartz, then you shouldn't scalp.

Chappie's Smarty Jones and a lesson in success

LOL:p . Actually, in the "problem attitude" department, I'm like most traders. You know the saying of do as I say, not as I do.

Chappie's Smarty Jones and a lesson in success

Traders looking to make instant millions should instead heed lessons from businessman Roy Chapman, the owner of Preakness winner, Smarty Jones. 1946 age 20 he began as a salesman selling cars. 1975 age 49 Roy became part-owner of a car dealership. 2004 age 78 he owns 8 dealerships, is a...

    1st_samurai's trading thoughts

Looking for a potential short term top in USD Index next week, and opportunity to go long SF. Sugar in downtrend mode, but I wouldn't short it. OJ should continue down/sideways for next several months, and I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole with either a short or long.

    Wizetrade Journal

Sorry, but I feel like laughing when I see WizeTrade commercials. Just follow a simple system to huge profitability? Ain't that simple. When I was a kid I read some Wade Cook stuff, and intuitively it didn't make sense. Rolling stock in trading range? They don't tell you what to do if it rolls...

    The truth, I'll prove it

You need to find your edge and have good money management. Concept is easy, but the execution is hard. The successful ETers will tell you its not one particular strategy because the markets change and you need to adapt. On the other hand, even successful traders can lose their edge. Look at...

    Who knows about stanley Kroll?

Sorry, I meant Richard Dennis recommended Stanley Kroll's book, "Kroll on Futures Trading Strategy." The praise is on the backcover of the book. Dennis was a legend in 70s and early 80s, but has had inconsistent trading results since the late 1980s. Some years of big gains followed by big...
