    Japanese Market

I wish I had a source but I believe that there is a 10% stamp tax on all stock trading, similar to British stocks. Japan has a tradition of protecting domestic markets while aggressively expanding into foreign markets. This leads me to a thought, you could check out British spreadbetters to see...

Derivatives Market - Warren Buffett has the right idea.

I agree with you for the most part but it is important to point out that many contracts are very asymmetrical. Consider as basic put or call contract-unlimited versus limited upside or even your car insurance. This is why there are trading desk to insure risk and then spread it out. It is a...

My Theory On Predicting Long Term Range Breakout

One of the most interesting things to do is think about what strategy would have worked yesterday. Once you come up with a strategy go look at a chart and see if it would have worked. It is interesting how much different the markets can behave then how you perceive them

ISE options exchange proposes punitive cancel charges for active traders

The cost advantage doesn't come from fees per trade but the ability to have open orders to both buy and sell at the same time and not having to large cancelation fees. It is very hard to get good enough fills to make a strategy that requires constant adjustment pay, mostly due to never being in...

    Grain Alpha-Pit traders needed

I just got a call from a friend of my from Leftbridge Alberta. He is heading up a group of farmers who have formed a marketing group. I have suggested that they use the "portable alpha" approach. Nasdaq should be open 24/7

24 hour trading would be great in the big names like cisco and microsoft but small cap/float stocks would be open to all sorts of manipulation that would be detrimental to the long term health of the capital markets. If any one really wants to trade 24 hours a day there is plenty of opportunity...

    KOSPI options

I know part of the story is the margin rules for futures makes it more capital efficient to trade options, to a greater extent than with other contracts. Of course that doesn't account for all of the massive volume. Anyone else have any ideas?
