Dude, go to ThinkOrSwim and open up a margin account. They have a TON of tools for novice investors. I've been with them since April and have learned a lot plus seen some good gains.

I have to agree with the above skeptics. Options which are NOT the front month will have low volume... the last price (if relied on) will prove to be a very bad indicator. You'll have to use the bid/ask on the back months.

It's all about what you want to do. I would advise though, that margining on futures options is not easily explained. There are a lot of hidden gotchas. Take a look at 'SPAN Margining' Bottom line, futures options margining is totally different than stock options.

I strongly advise a good book on options before persuing further. You need to understand delta, gamma, theta, and vega or you're gonna be eaten alive.

A few years ago IB did have really low commissions especially for small retail clients... but thankfully, other firms have gotten significantly more competitive.. why? because many of us were willing to put up with IB for their low commission despite their faults... now we have other options. :)
