What is the threshold to be considered a successful day trader?

Hmm, that's a very good point. I've played all the way from 2 cent big blinds to $10 big blinds. The funny part is the play in those 2 stakes are almost the same. 2 cent big blinds have nothing to lose while $10 big blinds is almost completely psychological playing tight and playing like you're...

What is the threshold to be considered a successful day trader?

I see the question asked around the Internet about how much a day trader makes or what is the realistic expectation if you make money as a day trader, but I never see what the criteria is to be considered a successful day trader. In poker the ability is measured by X amount of big bets (BB) per...

Taking the L with a grain of salt

It did just occur to me something I know others do, that I'd thought of before but was just like, "meh, I'll make a mental note to myself" that would probably be ideal. A trade journal. Not sure why this didn't dawn on me before, but in analyzing every trade I make in the day, and why I made...

Taking the L with a grain of salt

I won't lie, I'm at the beginning of my day trading journey, though I am bankrolled and feel my skill is somewhat adequate. I recognize leaks as they happen and fix them. I make profitable trades and use solid and proper positions given risk/ reward. EXCEPT... However, one problem I have seen...

What happens in a stock exchange when only market orders are placed?

I'd imagine many traders go in planning to be like the beginning of this scene and end up being the end of it, and the market makers probably react much the same way.

Even still, that goes along with the joy of the actual skill rather than the love of the money for doing it.

Why do share prices of companies that are not part of indices mirror indices across the board?

I have no specific examples, I guess in trying to ask this question I have answered it in my own mind. Something fundamentally was happening within any given company on a given day to make them move higher while the Dow, Nasdaq, or S&P moved lower. Maybe their credit score was upgraded at...

    Day Trading

There's an old proverb "When the student is ready to learn, the teacher shall appear." One may think that means you to us, you the student and we the teacher. In actuality that means you will find the answers no matter what it takes. I didn't learn my way here on ET. When I did ask questions on...

Why do share prices of companies that are not part of indices mirror indices across the board?

I know how they work. They are made up of representational businesses across each industry (ie Walmart retail, Apple Technology etc) and each indice utilizes the combined movement on a point basis. They utilize economic data and reports and rise and fall based on the consumer sentiment and data...

    Day Trading

This below was accurate for me. I read many, many books on concepts, strategy, and price action and blew through all but $1,000 of my $15,000 (which I took on a loan from my 401k which was half of my 401k at the time years ago, the max I was allowed to withdraw). I spent years learning and...

Why do share prices of companies that are not part of indices mirror indices across the board?

Do they rise and fall because of the indices that day or in spite of them? Thank you in advance!

It's so hard to say goodbye to a stock that's been running.

Not quite sure why this never occurred to me before. I guess I only thought of options like how many people play them now, like gambling, rather than as a hedge. I'd heard of hedging before, but it never quite clicked.

That's on a 1 minute chart though. So that's a 200 minute Simple Moving Average. Far different than how the Day chart would look.

Made 140% :D Though they tripled their share price in the 2 preceding years. I had made this plan about 2 weeks ago. With that huge gap that will be huge resistance, but I dunno, it's been on a huge run with a huge influx of new volume, and the entire airline industry has been on fire. I'd feel...

It's so hard to say goodbye to a stock that's been running.

I haven't done the best with stocks over the years, but a few weeks back I threw $18,000 into AZUL, a Brazilian airline, when it was at $6.71 about 3 weeks back. I sold today because it's running into a huge $3 gap after already having run up 100%. I sold at $16.10. I saw it closed at $17.30...

Warren Buffett says Berkshire sold all its airline stocks because of the coronavirus

Let's not forget, this $50 billion loss was as of March 31st, when the entire market dipped to a V point. That $50 billion unrealized loss has probably erased a huge chunk of that loss since then.
