    How is margin interest calculated?

I have one month since December with a margin interest charge (Feb) and it does appear that they charged me margin interest for the entire month although I probably only used margin for a single day during that month. 3/1/2005 Debit Interest -$5.31 6.200% 02/02-02/28 $1147 Please post...

    Possible Etrade Fraud

Having had an Etrade account in the past, one of the things that I don't think everyone here understands is that Etrade is both a bank and a broker (which are completely separate) and if I understand the OP correctly this wasnt money from your ETrade brokerage cash account. If the funds...

No, you are correct - the market can shift overnight so if that is the reason you dont want to hold overnight its valid, as long as you consciously are aware of why you are doing it.

There is nothing technically unfeasible in your plan. Its as simple as it looks to buy and sell. The market is very liquid and the tools and brokers are plentiful. Knowing when to buy and when to sell is the hard part.

You dont need exact quotes to figure out which days the market closed higher or lower. Just pull Nasdaq index quotes or look at a 10 year graph of the indices. In any case on any individual day, how are you going to decide if that is going to be an up day? Simply going long every morning...

    Trade E-mini on E*Trade...

Yes you can, the only reason that you are getting the reaction you are getting is because such a simplistic plan is doomed to failure. What you have done is curve-fit a bare-bones strategy on a time period where the market was rising, if it had fallen during that period you would have lost...

How to be a good VENDOR on ET

There are many sports analogies here (great coaches who were only mediocre athletes) but as far as I know, there is no genetic component to being a great trader, personally I would be somewhat suspect of taking advice from someone who claims that they know what needs to be done to be a great...

A Bad Experiance w/ Brandon Fredrickson

This point is my main hang-up and this explaination does nothing to change my mind. If someone is really good at trading then they should have plenty of money in reserve AND a sound money management strategy to overcome a trading slump. The idea that a trading guru would require small...

Have a forced money management plan

Margin only does this if your current money management plan consists only of not exceeding your margin limits (ouch). I agree this does seem pretty bad (that it would be necessary) but I bet a lot of traders would benefit from it. I certainly have violated my own MM rules on occasion...

n00b question: Can I buy a stock a day before dividends issue and get my dividend?

Maybe I'm taking this too literally but I don't think GUARANTEED is the appropriate term here. Stock prices are set by supply and demand, not mathematical formulas. The stock price is no more guaranteed to be reduced by the dividend amount ex-divdend than a 2-1 stock split is guaranteed to...

    What's better than cable?

If high availability is your concern you may be better off keeping comcast and adding DSL as a second ISP connection and then buying a dual-WAN router that will automatically load-balance between the two. Then if either connection fails (and they will from time to time) you wont be out of luck.

    What's better than cable?

For anything short of a dedication point-to-point connection to your broker, you are going to share your connection. With cable, you start sharing at the neighborhood level, with DSL you start sharing at the CO (local telephone central office). Your best bet is to check out what is available...

    What's better than cable?

As an end user there is little you can do with regard to latency (other than taking your business to an ISP that meets your needs). If your ISP is "well-connected" to major internet backbones on the internet it can help get your packet where its going without taking unnecessary detours or...

typical lag caused by satellite internet connection

http://www.broadbandreports.com/faq/2001 Q: What are the average ping times for satellite? (#2001) A: Latency for satellite connections is very high due to the distance the satellites are from earth. One-way systems typically get pings in the 400-500ms range with 450ms about average and...
