Why doesn't MSFT buy YHOO thru the stockmarket?

Why doesn't MSFT buy YHOO thru the stockmarket?

I don't get it. Why offer $31 when it's in the market at $19?? Buffett does that all the time.

Someone give me a bullish case

Technically, some sectors (financials, housing) are breaking their previous highs. A retracement downward and bouncing off a higher low signals a reversal of the downtrend.

Fed will do what at 2:15pm Wed?

50 bps, but market will tank because there's nothing else to look forward to.

    Coincidental??

If you're swing or position trading, buy 2-3 month options instead. You have a price-stop (you only lose the amount debited) and a time-stop (expiry). No whipsaws except maybe when it expires and underlying hits its target:cool:

    Options better for newbs?

Buying options, debit spreads i guess are ok, so long as the newb knows it's practically all or nothing. Selling naked and net credit spreads... well, that's another story. What I think matters most is position size.

    Ah so it has. Thanks.
  16. Q

    efficient market theory in trading

Yes, and in that respect the markets are efficient. However EMT also says that: "at any given time, prices fully reflect all available information on a particular stock and/or market", which I disagree with.

    What's an edge?

Trade with an edge! Trade with an edge! So what's an edge supposed to be? Inside information? A fool-proof system? What can I possibly have that other traders don't or can't have? Some examples would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Science Advancements on trading

Trading as science is more akin to the social sciences such as psychology, sociology and economics, rather than the physical sciences such as physics and chemistry because the study of security prices can not be separated from the study of human behavior. It would be a mistake to conclude that...

    efficient market theory in trading

Unfortunately, EMT is still the underlying theme in most finance textbooks. I do agree that financial markets are somewhat efficient. However, I disagree with its underlying assumptions that markets are perfectly efficient, that all investors think alike and "efficiently", and that...
  20. Q

    efficient market theory in trading

Simple, because: 1. they don't believe in EMT, 2. they believe money managers can do better than they can, 3. they believe the return on their loan is "guaranteed", and is worth the risk. Besides, I read an article in WSJ that some academics are beginning to debunk EMT, academically. I'll...
