'Day' trading versus 'End of Day' trading

I think most non-pros choose a trading duration that makes them comfortable. I've hung out at some free paltalk sessions and noticed people going for 2 points with a 2 point stop. They probably don't even realize that they have to win 57.5% of the time to make $10 per-RT with no slippage and a...

    Acceptable Max DD?

Our positions were marked to market intraday. Evaluation was done yearly, however if you were clearly out of bounds, you'd be gone long before the year was up.

    Acceptable Max DD?

I understand. I was just pointing out that the risk tolerance can be adjusted using money management. That way all you need to know is the annual return / max. dd to make an objective decision. If the first example had a 50% return and a 30% max dd, but my risk tolerance was only 15%, then by...

    Acceptable Max DD?

That's an easy one. The 15/15 is a superior strategy. If you use notional funding at a 2:1 ratio on the second strategy versus the first, then the 15% p.a. becomes 30% and the max. DD only grows to 30%. Beats the first strategy in both return and risk.

Globex or IB Stops screwed up?

I had a limit order to exit a position yesterday. The market traded through my price and I got a fill report for only part of my order. I thought I still had a open position and manually entered a market order for the remaining contracts. I then called my broker to complain. He checked with...

    Acceptable Max DD?

My old trading desk required 10:1 ($10 annual return for each dollar of max. drawdown). If you look at CTA and hedge fund rankings the better ones are between 3:1 and 6:1.

Looking for Books with Interviews of Successful Traders

I got it from the MTA's (Market Technician's Association) lending library. Just get a affiliate membership and you get access to their library of books, video tapes, and audio tapes. I got lots of ideas from one trader that talked about how he had winning daytrade runs of 25 - 30 trades in a...

    Got psi?

Just got a view of the ES close...looks up from here. Don't normally fade the opening gap, but if it goes above 90950 I've got to go with the psi flow....:p :p

    Got psi?

Interesting test here. I tried it and had the highest score of the day in remote viewing (74.75). Finally figured out why I bail positions 30 sec. before the market turns...lol. http://www.gotpsi.org/bi/gotpsi.htm

    Big Players Love this chop?

I have level 2 on the ES. It looks like all the moves start with market orders of 500 contracts or more. Maybe the hedge funds are sitting on their hands until the Iraq situation is cleared up. I took a short at 91500 when it broke below the noise. Lookin like some afternoon delight. :p

    becoming a CTA

So, with the limited power of attorney, anyone can trade for someone else up to 15 accounts? Yes, no limits on account size....but you can't advertise (like a junior hedgefund) Is there any type of designation needed to trade for someone this way? No, you just need to have the...

    Anyone actually trade mechanically?

I develop systems using TS for SP and ES and automate them. However when it comes to trading them, I use my own discretion. I do so for a variety of reasons: 1). I can see things that I would find too difficult to automate such as if a entry/exit point is indicated near the previous days...

About the Sharpe Ratio and Expectancy in the analyze of intraday trading systems

We were expected to keep the RRR above 10. It was computed daily and was reviewed monthly. Ex. Jan. profit + 2.0% Max DD -2.0% RRR = annualized return / Max DD RRR = 2%*12 / 2.0 RRR = 12 Feb. Profit + 2.0 Cumm. Profit +4.0 Max DD -2.5 from beginning of year to present RRR...

    Trading buddy tools

I'm looking for some software that will let me share a live updated window, voice, and mouse movements among 5 other systems over the Internet. I've looked at Netmeeting but the screens have to be cut and pasted to a whiteboard. Does anybody know of software to do this?

    becoming a CTA

You might want to hold off on getting the CTA until you've maxed out the number of accounts you can manage as Joe trader (15). Just setup an omnibus trading account with your broker and get the limited power of attorney to trade the account and you're in business. The nice thing is, if all goes...

About the Sharpe Ratio and Expectancy in the analyze of intraday trading systems

There's no need to mess with the dates. Just Export the trades using the tab delimited text output and the standard trade format (not advanced). When you import into Excel, just leave the cells as a General column format. You can manipulate the P/L column without having to worry (it'll skip...

where do you put your profits?

With excess short term profits I buy Tbills. Every six months a portion is swept into Muni's and TIPS so that the funds are laddered. I don't own investment real estate (been a landlord --- what a headache), stocks (been burned by news events and lousy tax treatment for short term gains/losses)...
