    Multicharts User Thread

Quick question: Have MC 3.0 setup to trade ESM8. Datafeed is IB. Having recent issue trying to plot regular trading hours 930AM-4PM EST. Symbol "Settings": Sessions field is set to "Regular". As in Ninjatrader, there must be an area to manually set plot period? This is important...

    IB/TWS - No T/S for ES,NQ.

Same issue here. I'm in small since the open as well. About to close the position out.

    Pictures of your trading stations

Trading setup. New larger desk coming in, which will clean up the look (covered back/sides). Two systems, 3 24", 1 20", cable and dsl connections. All APS protected. View is when I turn my head to the right out the balcony door window. Mt. Evans, 14,264 ft...inspiring. When I've had a bad day, I...

    Multi-chart Ripping Off Tradestation

FWIW, have been told by a programmer in the industry that two ex-Tradestation programmers have either migrated to or helped TSSupport develop MC. Keep in mind I only met the programmer by shear chance at an airport bar. Seemed genuine but wouldn't go into further detail. Surely could be utter...

What is the fastest intel processor?

Why not? My Q6600 (SLACR) trading workstation stable @ 3.6Ghz is throttled back for trading to 3.0ghz (25% OC) using "stock" voltages, mated with best air cooler on the market (Tuniq Tower 120) and results in: - 37C idle temp - typical daily load temp (trading hrs) 41-43C. - Prime95 and...

    High Speed Internet

I agree with this, but FWIW pay for Comcast 8mbit ($45/month) in Denver and at night routinely download 20-30mb files @ 1.2-1.4mb/s ( 9.6mbit-11mbit) from major servers (ex Adobe.com) for the entire length of the download. Typical speeds are around 1mb/sec.

Cleaning thermal paste off a socket...

Been building computers for a similar amount of time, and did this side-by-side comparison not too long ago with an AMD 64 3000+ @ 2.4ghz OC. There was a 4 C differential on idle and roughly 10C on load between no paste and Artic Silver 5. CPU caps and heatsink surfaces are microscopically...

What is the fastest intel processor?

I use TSSupport Multicharts charting package, which is Intel multi-thread enhanced. The extra cores make a difference when I monitor massive amounts of live tick charts. A $200 Q6600 SLACR can run at 3.2ghz with relative ease on air cooling, which is ball-park to the Core2 Extremes on the...

Hey Vienna. Lost track of this thread, sorry for not being able to reply to earlier questions. Glad you got everything worked out. System sure is a screamer. Still running rock solid here. Did you get the builders to test your overclock potential? Did you get your hands on a Q6600...

How to calculate futures R1-3, S1-3 and Pivot Point in Multicharts 3?

mypivots is exactly what I needed. Thanks folks. Embarrased to have missed floor trader pivots (which is what I used in esignal before dumping) in the MC study list.

How to calculate futures R1-3, S1-3 and Pivot Point in Multicharts 3?

Anyone familiar doing this in MC? I'm somewhat old fashioned, and was doing it by hand or visual. If no dice with MC, what is everyone using to calculate them with an index future? All I can find is the freebie ones on the net that tabulate stocks. ex. http://pitrading.com/pivot_points.htm

Highly Recommended Q6600 based custom build

For sure. If anyone is in need of a new PS, highly recommend this purchase from buy.com. You'll pay at least $80-90 for a decent one, spend the extra $25 to get the best. You'll also like the modular capability where you can choose how many power cables will run from the PS to components, thus...

Nothing to do with computer performance...all Multichart/broker feed interaction. Are you using the 3.x beta? It is noticeably better but still have to wait quite a bit for history backfilling of 10+ workspaces with 20-charts per workspace. Usually load them all when I wake-up/before breakfast...

If you never done it before, you are tight on time and don't have the curiosity to try it, then buy a pre-fab. End of story. Basic overview of hardware install : - Place motherboard on a table sitting on the static bag it was shipped in. - Place CPU into socket, clamp down, spread...

Judging by some of the reactions here, suspect it is the older folks that don't get the stigma/tech benefits to building their own system. And you know what? Absolutely nothing wrong with that. Most don't have the time nor patience to deal with it. But I know for a fact a great deal of the...

best HD setup for speed and protection

I use the latest Raptor 150GB for main O/S drive and a 160GB 7.2k Cavier SATA ($55) for storage. If you want to save some $, recommend the 36GB Raptor ($90 vs $160). Use the 36 in my backup system. The Raptor is great for churning through loads of downloaded historical data/backtesting. O/S...

Inaccurate. Prices listed (~$950 total) in original post are those that were paid at the time of post (Microcenter, Newegg, Buy.com). Rebates on Abit board ($169-$35) and two evga v.cards ($89- $30) were priced in. Saved at least ~$500 at the time of build compared to the closest offering...

Highly Recommended Q6600 based custom build

All it takes is 30-90mins (depending on experience) to assemble the hardware and 2-3hrs to install the operating system/drivers/soft. Most people that I know who purchase new from a manufacturer almost always reformat and do a fresh install of the O/S. Reason being the manufacturer typically...
