1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

After further cosideration I think the best way to argue against this tax is from the viewpoint of the 180 million investors in this country. This was posted on one of the blogs and has many good talking points. Consider the political fallout from this tax. 180 million investor class has...

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

You guys are missing the point. This is not about the DeFazio bill. That is DOA. It is about the $9 Trillion budget deficit. It is about the Healthcare reform bill that is losing steam because people don't know how to pay for it. It is about an administration that is looking for creative...

    Who Is Don Bright?

momo, I have never understood why some people are so hostile toward veteran traders like Don  He has a a firm that is similar to a retail model... Only with leverage and nose for working strategies. So what? If you don't like the model or firm don't trade there. But to...

I know some people who have had decent luck with this strategy. The logic is sound. There seems to be an edge. Good luck.

    'Prop" then drop

You have it all wrong. The market is ever changing. You must change and adapt with it. You work an edge until it does not work any more and then you move on. A career trading is a career that is ever changing. When I got started we were shifting from fraction pricing to decimals... Traders had...

    'Prop" then drop

Not so, you can find an edge just pulling up ratio charts on highly correlated securities in e-signal. Many pairs have tight ranges over long periods of time that can be easily seen on these ratio charts. You don't need complecated programs a team of quants, etc......... sometimes its best to...

    'Prop" then drop

Statistical edge. The often used coin flip analogy: If you flip a coin 1000 times you are likely have 50% heads and 50% tails. If You pay me $2 every time I flip heads, and I pay you $1 every time I flip tails, I will make money over time. Variations of this are often used in Stat arb...

    'Prop" then drop

Opening orders and pair trading (what a lot of Bright traders are into) can have an edge. It is up to the individual to make it work.

    'Prop" then drop

Hedge funds, private outfits, and a few firms like First NY, Opus, and maybe Schonfeld. I-Banks and Banks typically stick to Fixed Income (bonds, structured products, etc) but do have equity prop desks. The 100% model (prop/arcade) is like the old floor exchange model. You used to buy or...
