When is too many options, too many?

Thank you all for the feedback. It sounds like it's not an issue at low volume of 100. But what happens once volume reaches 1000 or 10,000, or 100,000? At what point filling in an order in a retail broker trading platform is not going to be sufficient anymore, and a different order type is...

    Who sells .01 contracts !!! ???

If I own 100 options that are about to expire, I could sell to close: 100 (* 100) * 0.01 = 100$ If commission is less than 100$, I will end up ahead.. Some benefits: 1) Possible to make a little extra money (as opposed to letting them expire worthless) 2) Selling increases volume, and the...

When is too many options, too many?

I occasionally play around with options on equities, usually highly liquid stocks (i.e., Facebook, Google, etc.). I purchase and hold for usually a week to a couple of months (not day trading). When trading 1, 5, even 10 options... it's not a significant issue. But as I trade more and more...

When will Bitcoin options start trading?

If Bitcoin options were available, I would have two concerns: 1) Can IV be greater than 100%? 2) How would Bitcoin affect the VIX? Would the extreme volatility of Bitcoin (and by extension the options) affect the calculation of VIX enough to render it a useless metric?

The New Money.Net (Free Trial in December)

Did anyone else get this? I sampled Money.NET a couple of years ago, so was quite interested in trying out the new one with the 'all new' web interface. I even set aside some time just for this purpose. After about 10 minutes, I'm a bit confused: 1) It is interesting they show Bloomberg TV...

Interactive Brokers Secure Login: mobile app or card?

I think you need to activate the card. This is to ensure you can log in until you get the card. IB does not know your mail arrived. you can call them on the phone even if you can not log in and they will help you. They also have Customer service people around the world so usually someone is open.

Interactive Brokers Secure Login: mobile app or card?

One other choice is to print out a code card which contains codes to enter when logging in and challenged with codes. This is more secure as the code card expires every three weeks, forcing you to get a new card (online, takes two minutes). You can save it on disk or cloud and reference as...

    Fixed Income With Interactive Brokers

Then I guess the next question would be, how to determine what the proper/fair price for a corporate bond is? Other than using a Bloomberg terminal and crunching the numbers yourself that is :) Thank you.

    Fixed Income With Interactive Brokers

If IB is not suitable for Bond trading, then which broker would be good for this? I was considering IB as 'I'm already there'.

    Is 10% of profit enough

Perhaps this question does not make sense, but I would ask: What are you trading and what time span? (is it just S&P Futures with no overnight holding or any equity for any amount of time?) Do you have any liability (are you on the hook if you loose all the money, or is it not an issue?) Do...

    Fixed Income With Interactive Brokers

There are also situations where one wishes to have a portion of their portfolio holding bonds (either as a short term cash alternative, or a market hedge) and then liquidate those positions when the market moves in the appropriate direction. As well as part of an overall 'diversified portfolio'...

    Fixed Income With Interactive Brokers

I know that IB offers Fixed Income trading through their TWS Application (and even include a Bond Screener). But I do not see too many people discussing using IB/TWS for trading bonds on this forum. I'm curious if others consider IB/TWS a good platform for trading bonds or would suggest...

Anyone uses Reuters StockReports+ on IBKR TWS?

The Reuters StockReports+ is an interesting feature. No real analysis or insight, but a nice compilation of data points in a pretty readable (and standardized) format. I think it was 2$/mo, and I believe its well worth its money if you are interested in quick fundamental analysis. This...

Anyone uses Reuters StockReports+ on IBKR TWS?

I got the pop-up a day or two ago when logging in asking if I wanted to subscribe to it. But when I choose to do so, the option did not appear on their website. So now I do not have it, nor the option to pay for it.

Unusual Execution Price for Options Combo Order

I could be completely wrong here, but any chance when you are looking at the 'filled price' it is actually shown you the price including commissions ? (which, the bid x ask does not factor in).

Switching to IB from TDA's TOS will I be able to analyze options

I use TWS a lot, and agree it is mainly for 'execution' and has only the minimal/basics for Analysis of any type. Although it does have several tools for Options Analysis I find they really are only a starting point for option traders and not nearly detailed enough for the more experienced...

This is how bad the IB Margin calculator and Support are

Is this legal? Sounds like a fault in the Brokerage Firm or Trading Platform yet a client (you) has to absorb the loss?

options strategy.. pls help me to improve

It looks like you are trying to profit off opening trades. Are you trying to anticipate a direction as well? If you are SELLING puts you could open yourself to a big loss if the opening trade results in a 2%+ move to the downside (something a limit sell order might not be able to trigger...

    From Lynx to IB

I've not switched to IB, but I have transferred positions from other brokers to IB and back. The backoffice at IB were great and very helpful with the position transfer.

Tracking PNL of rolled over multi-leg options

Yes, it also gets complicated with things such as additional different positions as a hedge (for example, adding GLD or VXX) as well as allowing partial assignments that turn into a buy-write. Very complicated, which is why I wrote my own software to handle all this. However, would be...
