    Portfolio Margining & Account Minimums

Not trying to deviate too much from the topic of PB, but how many people are actually using porfolio margin accounts? Tehre was a lot of enthusiasm about it, but i'm hearing it's not really affecting many of the regular brokers as most people already had suffecient equity in their accounts as it...

    Trading option in intraday

I agree with Nazzdak. I would avoid using optins for day trading and focus on futures or equities. Too much slippage and not enough delta. If you really have to, then the Qs, SPYs, IWMs are among the most liquids. Also look for stocks that have optoins with strike prices at 1 point incraments...

What do you think about Jim Cramer?

Cramer does some research and you might be able to get some good ideas from some of his informatoin. I never have. I watched him when he first started appearing on CNBC just before the dot com bubble, his street.com, etc. Shortly thereafter, the Street.com Internet Index, the DOT, was born...

How do I get over wanting to "hit home runs?"

Pit Bull is a great book and written by someone that has some real experience, but it's not a guide to trading success. In fact, if you read his interview for the book Market Wizards, there are some disparities (how much did he lose in 87?). In addition, where is this guy now? Great trader that...

    A scalper invitation to scalpers

I haven't short term traded the equity index futures much, but have in the TYs. Trading for a couple of ticks here and there is tempting because, with the leverage, you can make nice income if you are right a lot of the time. The problem is that, it's not easy to it. The biggest dilemma, how...

When implied volatility is high, time decay also increases?

Or, you can look at it this way, time value affects the extrinsic value of an option. Implied volatility increases the extrinsic value. It has no affect on intrinsic value. The more extrinsic value, the more value that can be lost due to time decay.

    MF put expiration question

What happens Monday doesn't matter because the options expired. After hours Friday can push the stock in one direction or another and cause assignment on Saturday. Not sure why you got filled on those out of the money puts though. Thank your lucky stars I guess

    Put/Call Level

you might be referring to the put call ratio, which is simply the number of puts traded daily divided by calls. it has no relationship to moneyness of the option. in just says how many puts traded vs. calls, but gives no indication of whether it was buying or selling. go here for some basic...

    is this a stupid idea?

He must have sold puts, not calls because the stock was at $30 Friday and $2 Monday. Selling calls would have been a winner.

    is this a stupid idea?

there are no stupid ideas. only stupid people. haha. just kidding. naked calls refers to selling options without a position in the stock or other hedge. so, are you talking about selling more options than is covered by the stock. if you want to sell more calls against your stock...

Atticus: CL vs USO opts IV arb?

USO holds futures contracts. It tends to underperform crude for that reason, due to the fact that it has to buy longer term contracts and sell short-term ones. It also holds other types of securities, like cash equivalents. Might want to check the product specs at unitedstatesoilfund.com

1 in 10 of Americans Either in Default or Foreclosure on Home Loans

As long as people can still find jobs and earn wages, seems like the economy should be able to weather the housing slump. Americans spend what they earn and more. The tax rebates helped short term. The rate cuts will help the financial industry somewhat. But, if the unemployment rate starts...
