    Victor Niederhoffer in Vogue Magazine??

My thoughts... "Ayn" is a prettier name for a girl than "Galt". But "Galt" is still better than "Roark"! Victor's artwork density is a little much. The purple jacket is awesome. Aaron Schindler Schindler Trading

What to do with excess cash in your account (bond fonds, T-Bills, ETFs, etc)?

Ah, thanks, gkishot. I hadn't heard of PVI. Another couple ideas are TIP for inflation protected TIPs or WIP for international government bonds. There are lots of fixed income ETF's of all types. Aaron Schindler Schindler Trading

Ah, here, I'll answer my own question... There are three types of Nat Gas storage owners: Interstate Pipeline Companies Interstate pipeline companies rely heavily on underground storage to perform load balancing and system supply management on their long-haul transmission lines. FERC...

I couldn't believe how big the October to November contango is when I pulled up the November contract today. I thought I had pulled up Nov 2010 and had to double check! Nov is at 4.61 and Oct is at 3.75. No wonder we have record amounts of NG in storage -- you can make 23% per month (less...

    IB: execDetails() missing

I still had the problem after first upgrading to Java 1.6.0_13 and then upgrading to TWS 893.5 (March 25). So if you don't still have the problem tomorrow (Monday) I would say it is a TWS server thing that has been fixed and nothing to do with version 893.5. I haven't risked leaving TWS...

Nice work, Russ! It seems like that ought to be helpful to the IB programmers. Aaron Schindler Schindler Trading

Sorry but another Tax Structure question?

If you trade as a corporation or partnership the profits are either a) passed through to you and taxed the same as if you, personally, were trading, or b) taxed at the entity level and then you get double taxed when you take a salary or declare a dividend from your entity. Neither method is any...

Tax "deferral" via hedge fund structure

Like GTS said, the performance margin posted for futures trading is not the same as borrowing money or buying "on margin". And also, futures are not included in the definition of "securities". No UBTI on futures or futures options trading.

    Schindler Trading up 17% YTD

Thank you, BLB and Mathemqician. I knew we'd eventually have a down year. It wasn't fun but I'm thankful it was only single digits. My trading strategies are profiting as expected and going forward in 2008, without the ill-fated, fundamentally-based oil strategy, I'm expecting a...

    Schindler Trading up 17% YTD

There is no particular negative correlation between Schindler Trading and the S&P500, but there is no particular positive correlation either -- it's close to no correlation in either direction. If you are looking at the chart, keep in mind that there will be a strong correlation between the...

    Schindler Trading up 17% YTD

Ah, thank you. It was a 44.94% 5 year return as of 11/30/2007 but in December the +14.5% gain in 12/02 dropped out of the 5 year result and was replaced by a +2.0% gain in 12/2007 for a 29.3% 5 year return. I was using old data. You are correct, BLB.

    Schindler Trading up 17% YTD

How are you calculating that 5.3% return? I get 7.7% CAGR for 5 years ending 12/31/07. Take the total return of 44.94% (after fees) and then annualize it (1.4494)^(1/5)-1 to get 7.7%. Keep in mind that this return is uncorrelated with the stock market. So the highest return-to-risk...

    IB option greeks wrong?

Ah, okay, I see that the delta in the option analytics screen depends on the fit in the option modeler screen.

    IB option greeks wrong?

The Option Analytics screen at Interactive Brokers appears to be incorrect in some cases. For example, the delta for a 10% out-of-the-money Dec SPY put (strike price = 136) is indicated at -.04 when it should be something like -.20. Do I have some setting wrong? Or is IB wrong?

    Schindler Trading up 17% YTD

:) Thanks, Steel. And everyone. Internet anonymity emboldens the immature and nasty, so it is doubly impressive to see all your support. Are ET readers nice people? Or is it traders in general? Perhaps we can commiserate the dreadful feeling of a lousy trade in a way a 9-to-5er will...

    Schindler Trading up 17% YTD

Short oil was the problem. We're out of the position and the market now, though, but not without taking large losses. I've been harshly reminded of the saying that "the market can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent."
