Bad news and market hardly budges....am I missing something?

Arnie hit it on the head. Most news is OLD news to the market. If anything the market may now be looking forward for the point and time when housing and related stocks turnaround. It will most likely precede the publication of this event in the media by weeks if not more. DS

How to make moeny with stocks!

Sounds like an old system to me, invented by W. Rodgers who stated it: "take all your savings and buy some good stock and hold it till it goes up, then sell it. If it don't go up, don't buy it." DS

IT is the difference of a difference. It was suggested in Jack's post titled, "Too Long". Let c = close Let c[1] = close one bar ago. Let dif = c - c[1] 2nd derivitive = dif - dif[1] I smooth this with Tillitson's T3 algorithm. The attached image shows a trade from yesterday...

    Beware Health Care?

Actually some health care is "exportable". For example, there are people going to Thailand for major surgery. The cost is much less than the US; the doctor's and staff are well trained, many getting trained in the US and Europe. Some insurance companies are accepting this. I don't know if...

    2006 Taxes: MTM?

Hard to believe, but it seems like it is time to start getting ready for income tax reporting. I am considering switching to MTM and have a question. I have several brokerage accounts. Two are used for short term trading, ie, I believe the activity in them qualifies for Trader Status...

Can any oil market experts confirm these factoids?

As I'm an equity trader and don 't follow the derivatives; where may I find the data that supports your claim that they are "exponentially higher..." Thanks, DS

Can any oil market experts confirm these factoids?

I've worked in and around the oil industry for 25 + years. A conspiracy other than at the local level is too difficult to even think about as too many people are involved in the supply chain. Some of them would no doubt blow the whistle if it were true. Also. oil is one of the most...

I agree with you re. those of us approaching gheezerhood-I thought you were writing about me. It is indeed scary for someone just starting out. But, the newly minted graduates can usually find something within their means. THat usually is in the 'burbs or a fixer upper or something very...

    Housing Rolling Along 2

Not surprising, we are seeing quite a few folks from Ca. cashing in and buying "cheap" land and houses in TX. Ranch land varies $1000-12000 per acre plus improvements. Development houses can be had for under $100/sf; custom homes are going for 100-200/sf typically. West Texas ranches are...

fwiw- Despite the gloom and doom in some places, where I live is in a mini boom (TX). Prime ranch land is going up about a percent a month and much more for "jewels". Those are seeing 25+% year over year increases. Obviously flipping has begun for these properties. Some markets are...
