Profitseer, always enjoy your posts. I think by indicators here we are referring to those indicators that mathematically manipulate price. These would include EMA, CCI, STO, MACD, etc. TRIN and TICK, for example, are "indicators" but they are not a manipulation of price. They are based on other...

Wow! What a bunch of great posts! I want to join in thanking OldTrader for sharing his years of experience. It's a huge help to have folks who have been down the road a-ways share some wisdom. I, for one, would love to read about the trip! Any chance you might regale us with tales from your...

And is noise "fractal"? It doesn't seem to matter whether I look at a 55 tick, 3 min, 15 min or any other time frame. They all seem to contain the same noise level. Is there a TF "tuned" to the market that has the least amount of noise?

As long as I'm at it . . . Is part of the problem trading in the visual representation of charts? I mean, the price is going up or down, but is displayed on charts going sideways over time. Wouldn't a "thermometer-like" display be more representative? Kind of like what you would see if you...

According to some of the folks here, you'll own the world in short order at 6 points per day!

Another thought . . . Some daytraders I have watched are putting on two contracts with a 1.5 pt stop. If the price moves 1.5 points in their favor, they sell one contract and move the stop to breakeven. Then they let the second contract run and exit on a technical signal or a profit target...

    Daytrading E-Minis w/o Indicators

As a further thought, people are always saying the big money is in swing trading. But the swing systems I have seen seem to net maybe 2 ES points/day on average. It seems like there are plenty of daytraders/scalpers that consistently do several multiples of that every day. This would lead me...

As another thought, if you could get 10 pts/day out of the ES on average (I'm not saying you can), would it be more likely making one trade for 10 pts or 10 trades for 1 pt each?

Another system I have seen is RetroTrader on dacharts.com. http://www.dacharts.com/retrotrader.php Anyone traded this? It's takes 15 min bar breakouts, but requires lots of rules to manage the trade and reversals.

Other examples of indicator-less systems might be breakouts of the first hour range (on the assumption that the high or low is more often than not put in during the first hour) or volatility breakouts ala Tony Crabel. With floor pivots or Trade Prospector-type SR, I have always had trouble...

profitseer I agree that just about everything works in a good trend. What would folks consider to be the most reliable trend tool? EMA, linear regression slope, longer period stochastic, MACD? Uh oh, this is already violating my hope to get away from indicators :D

ddefina Can you talk at all about your rules for trading highs and lows. Not just for entries, but for exits? Also, what do you key on as strong intraday SR. Do you use floor pivots, intraday highs/lows?

    Daytrading E-Minis w/o Indicators

I would be interested in methods people are using to successfully trade the ES/NQ without indicators. I have been trying to rid myself of as many indicators as possible since they seem to cause as much confusion as anything. And that's after staring at every conceivable indicator/settings...

[The tax code] is a monstrosity and there's only one thing to do with it. Scrap it, kill it, drive a stake through its heart, bury it and hope it never rises again to terrorize the American people. - Steve Forbes
