Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

After over 4300 posts, is anyone prepared to say what they think the Obvious is? Or is this forbidden?

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

    Simple appeals to me. :)

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

Squiggly lines. :D I thought the obvious didn't require any indicators?

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

A bit more detective work. So, the "obvious" is really simple and yet too hard for most people to do. Hmmm...

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

You're almost right RN. 100 increasing to 1087.22 is actually a gain of 987.22%. This might illustrate. 100 to 200 is 100% gain 100 to 300 is 200% 100 to 400 is 300% etc Fact is, we're splitting hairs here. If you can grow your account by 1%/day then you're laughing all the way to the bank.

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

There's another saying, that I learned the hard way. Q) What's the easiest way to make a small fortune trading? A) Start with a big fortune!

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

J_S If only I'd known, when I started trading, that the right way is to bet very small. Like many other suckers, I fell for the allure of easy money and amassing a fortune. Oh well, you live and learn. Ed

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

    Hi RN By my reckoning 1.8% per day = 1.018^240 = 72 = 7100% 36% per month = 1.36^12 = 40 = 3900% Whereas 1% per day = 1.01^240 = 10.89 = 989% 25% per month = 1.25^12 = 14.55 = 1355% (oops) 22%/month would be nearer the mark...

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

Hi J_S Controlling your risk may keep you in the game longer but the OP made it sound like the "obvious" is a vastly superior technique/method/approach/process. What he/she claimed the "obvious" can deliver is nothing short of extraordinary. Even trading 240 days of the year, you'd have to...

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

Keeping it was never a problem for me because I never achieved a positive P&L. That's why I've spent countless hours pouring over this thread in the hope of finding a better way. If only I knew then what I know now. :(

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

Thanks RN. I did some reading and now grasp the distinction.

I think there are plenty of clues to that in this thread. ;)

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

No sweat RN. It was 6½ years ago after all. The market may be largely uncertain but not totally uncertain, otherwise everyone would be trading random. Although, having said that, many of us are probably trading worse than random! :D

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

Ignoring how you set the levels for the moment... So, you draw a line on a chart. Let's say price is falling and it crosses the line. I imagine your reaction is one of the following: 1) You expect a reversal, so you immediately go Long. 2) Or, you expect a reversal but wait for confirmation...

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

So, how do you get trade entry right from the start?
  16. E

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

OK J_S, here is my thought process. The aim of trading is to make money. Not on every trade but to have a positive overall P&L. The obvious pre-requisite to this is to have a method that works. Without this, no amount of position sizing and risk management will produce GOOD money. I thought...

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

Indeed J_S. Some quotes from the OP about the "obvious": "The obvious is simple, and it is because it is so simple that 99.999% do not even stop to try and work it out." "If I gave the answer you would not believe me!" "When a daytrader starts to trade live for to make a living, it is normal...

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

BHASH/SLABL is about having the balls to get on a move that is already well established. To the majority of traders it will probably look extended, and in overbought/oversold territory.
  19. E

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

For me, BHASH/SLABL feels like the right way to go. Follow the big money. I won't be day trading but trading on a bit longer time frame. I think part of the secret is to choose a method and stick with it. Rinse and repeat. Practice makes perfect. It's just gambling after all. You win some, you...

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

Hi VO, There's an old saying "price is never too high to buy and never too low to sell" Of course, the more extended the move already the more uncomfortable it will feel to open a BHASH or SLABL trade. That's why the majority of traders don't do it. The price may immediately reverse or the...
