    amateurs have no chance

Why? Because every pro was an amateur. Gotta start somewhere

which order type is faster, market order or limit order?

My thoughts exactly. Check your PM. I have some microstructure questions I’d like your opinion on.

which order type is faster, market order or limit order?

Any marketable limit sent above ask gets filled at ask, per US exchange rules. If you’re trying to snapshot the ask price at a specific time, and then send limit order at that price, then I guess that makes sense, but you might be left in the dust in a fast moving market, even index futures.

    Trading while having a job.

You should. This guy is extremely talented. What he’s done in such a short amount of time is mesmerizing.

No you don't. There is this thing called a program, and you can integrate whatever you want into it like AI, news, web scraping, character recognition, math, order execution, etc... It takes me a minute every morning to update my inputs and enable my platform.

    Reasons for trading difficulties....

Seriously. Just went on a single date with some dingbat, and she said something like "You should be grateful for your success" and "Look at the people who have nothing". I replied "I don't look at those people, I look at the people who have more than me". A little greed is good, and it doesn't...

    IB order processing/routing latency

I never thought about it before, but I think he means IB risk checks may be slower with PM.

    Trading while having a job.

Of course, but today it's basically a few big players trying to pick everyone off. Ok boss. Why don't you show us how we can possibly know the correct intraday entry levels the evening before (as you mentioned) market opens, without even knowing where the market will open. This is craziness...

    Trading while having a job.

I don't know why people can't grasp the thought, and what part of "I’ve had my order management unattended for years now" they don't understand. Not sure if it's envy or disbelief. I had the vision to automate in 2000 when guys were running around with flip phones, and I was toting around a big...

    Reasons for trading difficulties....

I guess. An old friend not so well-off, just told me recently that being poor is in style. Not sure if he's joking, but I do think about what he said. He may be right, but I wouldn't trade shoes with him. I was kind of raised in the same school of thought as little Cologeno. My old man was kind...

    Trading while having a job.

You're talking nonsense. This isn't the stone age. Once you have a viable model and execution platform, it can easily be automated while pursuing other things.

    Reasons for trading difficulties....

It's the safest path and a great one if you come from old money, but the average working Joe will never beat time unless they stick their neck out in some form. With cost of living, most can't scrape together $100-200 a month of wage income to invest long-term.

    Trading while having a job.

I’m sorry, but this kind of blind betting will never be fruitful without some kind of intraday context added in (bias, news, etc..). Informed seasoned traders love traders who bet this way. It’s low hanging fruit for them. I’ll assume those sitting bracket limit orders are displayed, which also...

    Adventures in Automation

It just shows what a vacuum the market can be. Money rapidly getting sucked out of pockets. I hear a faint sound right now actually, buyers possibly regaining control of NQ heading for my pocket.

    Intelligent swing trading algorithm

It averages few trades per instrument, per month, so theoretically to get a significant enough sample size, would take years. I don't mind throwing some real money at it for a year or two. If I lose 1/2 my stake, consider it a research cost. If it works, than the system is monetized, instead of...

    Intelligent swing trading algorithm

On the underlying yes, forward and back with positive expectancy. The option part is what needs to be built and live tested. For this swing system to be worth my time and capital, a leveraged vehicle is needed, enough that the performance can at least 1/2 match the returns on my intraday systems.

I was hoping the back month approach might alleviate some of that.

    Intelligent swing trading algorithm

Say what? Last time we communicated, we discussed game/gambling theory, which by the way, still fascinates me :)

    Intelligent swing trading algorithm

That's exactly the idea I had in mind, but I wouldn't even deal with historical option data, or backtested option trades. I'd just design the algo to run live trades based on underlying signals, a month or two on a sim account for stability checks, and then small capital commitment. Perhaps I...
