Why does open interest of E-mini S&P500 contract drop in middle of every month?

Thank you for the replies. My educated guess is that this has something to do with roll-over. During end of the month, traders will start to close front-month contract and initiate new contract as rollover. This explains the open interest drop during the middle of the month which I deduce is the...

Interactive Brokers intraday requirements for ES

I am an unprofitable futures trader so far. Giving 1000x leverage to beginners like me is giving me rope to hang myself. I am actually thankful to IB for the low leverage. Hope to get better over time.

Why does open interest of E-mini S&P500 contract drop in middle of every month?

I looked at the chart of a continuous E-mini S&P500 contract. I noticed an interesting phenomenon. Around the middle of every month from 15th to 20th, the open interest will drop. This happens every month. The volume will drop too but the drop is not as noticeable as open interest. Why is this...

Warning signs before MF Global went under

As a retail trader, the biggest nightmare is to have our broker going bankrupt and having our money disappear overnight. I got scared after reading this thread. https://www.elitetrader.com/et/threads/brokers-that-are-doing-badly.316996/ MF Global was a big and respectable broker before it went...

Mark Mobius underperforms over past 15 yrs. Retires.

Mark Mobius underperformed 80% of his peers over the past 15 years. Most of his active fund manager peers underperformed cheaper passive funds. Mark Mobius is the face of emerging market active fund managers. One would have thought his performance was top-notch given his high profile. It is...

What was your investment/trading gains in 2017?

2017 has just ended. Just wondering how have the elite traders and investors on this forum have perform? Is it normal to lose to the S&P500 index? For me personally, I lost to the index big time although my gains were worth a few months of salary bonus.

Ackman pays $194M to settle suit with ‘absolutely no merit’

If Mr Ackman thinks the lawsuit has no merit, why pay so much to settle the suit? $194m is no small sum.

Is long-term value investing more profitable than shorter-term trading?

Thanks. This is good advice. Have different tricks in the bag to prosper in different kinds of market conditions, though it takes skill to recognize what tricks to apply in what kind of market. Many value investors say market timing is impossible, so they usually stay invested throughout.

Is long-term value investing more profitable than shorter-term trading?

I am sure both schools are profitable. However, I am curious statistically which school is more profitable. Value investors like to cite Warren Buffett as an example why value investing is superior. They ask "If shorter-term trading is so profitable, why are there no prominent ultra-rich traders...

Traders Told to Cough Up the Cash After Their HFT Firm Is Fined

Given this precedent, Wall Street firms and big banks can transfer risk of trading loss to their own traders going forward. THis is a good deal for shareholders. Maybe I should start buying financial stocks.

Customers of Interactive Brokers file class action complaint over management of portfolio margin acc

The law is fair at times. This guy got very rich after divorcing Madonna. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1078782/It-money-Guy-Ritchie-just-10million-Madonna-divorce-settlement.html

Customers of Interactive Brokers file class action complaint over management of portfolio margin acc

Truly weird world that we live in, since the world is ruled by many men who have trouble keeping their dicks to themselves. Why didn't ex-presidents like Bill Clinton and JFK correct this unfairness, given that it is absolutely in their interest to do so?

Customers of Interactive Brokers file class action complaint over management of portfolio margin acc

Is the law equal to both men and women? If the husband earns lesser than the wife, does it mean he stands to profit from the divorce? Sounds like a good trade to catch a much richer spouse, regardless of the other qualities. If the relationship doesn't work out, one can always be hugely...

Customers of Interactive Brokers file class action complaint over management of portfolio margin acc

Indeed a big problem. It is much much more important in life to pick the right wife than the right investment. I've never experienced divorce. Do women usually have it better during divorce? Are there occasions when women are the party asked to pay child support of $51k a month to the men...

Customers of Interactive Brokers file class action complaint over management of portfolio margin acc

Sounds like in this case, the fault truly lies with Interactive Brokers. My confidence in this broker is shaken. Sigh ... to play safe in future, stick to plain stocks and less volatile futures contracts when using margin.

Why is bitcoin futures allowed when bitcoin is unregulated?

Futures are regulated. Bitcoin is unregulated. So, how can bitcoin futures be allowed by the regulators? The underlying is unregulated, so how can the derivative be regulated? I simply cannot understand how this can be allowed. I can't put a finger to it but I don't have a good feeling about...

Is investing in real estate less time-consuming than stocks?

Instead of owning a few rental properties, the alternative is to own REITs which offer even more diversification as well as high interest income too. With REITs, I wonder if it makes sense to invest directly into property anymore given the lesser work involved.

Why in the Hell is Michael Covel infatuated with Curtis Faith?

For sharing his turtles theory alone free of charge, the trading community owes a much deeper gratitude to Curtis Faith than to Michael Covel who tried to charge exorbitant sharing his turtles knowledge. On this aspect, Curtis Faith showed more integrity than Michael Covel. The value creation to...

Why in the Hell is Michael Covel infatuated with Curtis Faith?

I am not sure if what Faith wrote about Covel is true. But if it is true, Covel loses my respect thoroughly. I despise people who make more money teaching about trading than trading itself and charges very high fees for teaching despite lacking the qualifications. It is an easy fact to verify...

Why in the Hell is Michael Covel infatuated with Curtis Faith?

With this single act of giving away the turtle rules free, Curtis Faith has created more value to the trading community than Michael Covel. Did Michael Covel really charge USD3k for teaching a turtle trading course? This is pretty immoral when the turtle system is not even his to start with...
