Ditto.
I'm a more experienced crappy trader than you, though, because I ended up with 24 ticks :p
Walt, my favorite setup is a with-trend pullback entry. The best way to get in is to wait for price to resume movement in the direction of the trend after it pulls back.
The place to...
Despite taking equal longs/shorts (3 each), and many ticks in my favor, I can only call 24 ticks my own (1 winner and 5 b/e's) :(
There were 12 setups for me today and I only traded half of them, and managed a couple of them poorly.
I took 20 ticks out of 51 tick move from my entry on a trade and I do NOT feel happy.
I also let a 26-tick profit go all the way back to b/e instead of recognizing a price action pattern for what it was. I had an opinion about where price would go and tenaciously held that POS trade long past...
Ahhh, so it was the "this isn't really happening, I'll just go to sleep and wake up and it will be all better" method of letting a winner run. :p I once let a winner REALLY run when a power outage took out everything including both internet connections. It was so easy to later find the trade...
Definitely congrats HB, it's tough to take a ton of heat and then hold for good profit. If we could only let our winners run as well as we can hold the losers :p
RA, when I started day trading I had that exact thought, and so I was always tempted to swing trade for the big moves...
I have a specific minimum income I need to make each month and how I get there is meaningless to me as long as I exercise solid risk management. If I have a 10 win rate on a given day, but that one winning trade meets my minimum daily profit requirement, then I'm happy.
In my post-market...
Connect 9am ET pivot low to the 9:25am pivot low. Support established right on that line during the 1:50 and 1:55pm bars and everything looked rosy for the bulls who got trapped on the 2:00pm bar "breakout" and seems like that trend line was holding the entire world of CL up because...damn! (or...
The chop was awful most of today for those using a 5-min chart. But win rate means nothing if you let the winners run. I had 7 b/e trades today, 1 loss, and 3 winners. A 27% win rate and a fine profitable day.
When I started trading CL I tried at length to get these guys to Skype with me, but they were all too ADHD from trading CL all the time, so what I did was I found some ES traders to Skype with me and I gradually converted them to CL :p
Why are you wary of pivot highs? That's where a true show of strength occurs. When someone is willing to pay just 1 tick more than the price that was "too high" last time it got there, a lot of stops get triggered to market. If it's nothing more than a stop run, the breakout fails and you head...
I'd recommend avoiding the counter-trend trades until you have a ton of experience. That way you should have fewer losses and less chance of ending up sim trading. Notice how nicely your breakout long worked, because it was with the trend and by playing a breakout, you let price momentum tell...
Why are you switching between sim and live intraday? Why not only trade sim or only trade live on a given day. I can understand switching to sim if a daily max loss is reached, but other than that, it makes no sense to switch around, that's my 2 ticks. :p
Yes, it does, .26 holding nicely, but I'm hitting the sack now, flat, and so I'm rooting for Star again :p
Tell you one thing, trading with a 3 tick spread's annoying for a tight-stop scalper like me!
