    Complacency in trading.

What I meant is that you made it sound easy and as such I would have expected that you made more than 500 bucks. :) Red day for me. Long off the Open which I scratched at B/E on no follow through. In hindsight, that 09:50 reversal bar was a big clue, but I had potential support below so didn't...

How come you only made $528.50 if in your own words "you could have shorted it anytime during the day and just hold"?

Sounds more fun than staring at charts all day long... :)

Good stuff, @deaddog. Thanks for sharing.

Could you give an example of those criteria unless it's not a secret? How's swing trading equities been since the market topped out early last year? Do you short as well?

Are you completely rule based, @deaddog? That's certainly a long term goal of mine. Ideally, I'd love to add some indicators to my workspace in order to give me more objectivity. Just have not found any I really like, yet. They're either lagging or too noisy/sensitive.

I wonder if the OP is confusing over trading with revenge trading. Maybe they are the same? Trading without a signal at all could be compared to being in the forest hunting and just shooting wildly hoping you'll hit something. Trading on a poor signal could be compared to taking a shot from a...

    Complacency in trading.

Absolutely. I'll add that there are few trading strategies/plans that works consistently across all market conditions year in and year out without losing days and that's one of the reasons it's so hard to succeed in this game. The market's changing all the time. It's the same as yesterday, yet...

Did you buy the bottom of the range today or did you "chase the breakout"?

Lurking a bit on Twitter lately and it seems like everyone's getting it wrong.

I'm not very active on Twitter, but decided to check it out a bit over the last few days. I follow only a few people, but it seems like I'm flooded by random posts related to trading and the impression I'm getting is that people (amateurs and professisonals alike) are all over the place. Many...

Sure. But that would also limit the upside. I’m not interested in making pocket change. However, I’m not in a hurry to scale my account either, so as my account grows I expect risk per trade to decrease.

Love your new signature. LOL. I took me a while to come to this realization, but my working assumption now is that > 90 % of posters on ET are not making any serious coin and most likely they're net losers if they even have a brokerage account at all.

    Complacency in trading.

Losing $2750 gross day trading ES futures is certainly very much possible if you trade more than one contract in a volatile market. Hell, I've lost way more in a single day in the past, but I'll honestly say I was hoping I'd be able to contain the downside better these days and not go as far as...

    Complacency in trading.

I posted more detailed data on page 5 or 6. Up until yesterday my largest winning day far exceeded my largest losing day and I had 81 % winning days. I agree that I need to watch the downside more carefully, but it’s not as simple as just using small stops as those will typically have a high...

    Complacency in trading.

Rough week. I was treading water all week and was back at equity highs by Friday and wanted to close the week on a high note thinking I'd be happy with just a small gain and ended up with my largest losing day so far. I wouldn't say I got over confident and started thinking it was all easy, but...

Interesting. I was using this calendar which seems to say that Friday (yesterday) is the last trading day for options with actual expiration on Saturday.

The effect of options expiration on index futures

Nice research, NoahA. Of course, the question is what the books were showing at the time for those other days from the past, i.e., where's the largest open interest which would render most options expire worthless for the most favourable outcome for the market makers books? If I read the data...

Well, that's part of what I mean by contained. 3 down/up/down moves like that are fairly unusual. It's like there was a floor and ceiling put in today.
