Bitcoin future (BRR) at IB, 200,000 USD margin requirement?

GRULSTMRNN, For the BTC, we require accounts starting with $200,000. We offer 2X exchange margin for both long or short. We charge higher commissions for these than our posted rate but lower than most FCMs. We do not offer discounted margin for day trading them.

Because at one FCM you are long and another you are short. Until you offset them, it is a violation of CME rules.

I 100% agree. I can only think of two valid reasons to buy in one account and sell in another. One platform loses access to routing and you want to close. You are in the midst of an account transfer and want to close. Both are still not legal, but I at least I understand.

Volatility is such a broad term

I choose 25 delta because I find they provide the most information. Smaller delta options are too sensitive to the IVOL calculation. $0.05 vs $0.07 is only 2 cents but the math can lift the IVOl too much and not be meaningful. Experience mostly. I’m not overly analytical looking to maximize...

Volatility is such a broad term

No, I do not trade anymore- trading requires time and focus and my time and focus is on sales. I have a few HF investments for my savings I was an independent market maker on the floor of the American stock exchange from 1985 to 2010. I traded in the Apple crowd for most of that time. I...

Volatility is such a broad term

Sorry for the brief answers, I’m responding on my phone. #1-same thing to me. #2-yes- I look at the skew curve and how it changes, but as I said I look at the ATM versus the 25 Delta puts and calls. Each week and each month that I want to trade. First 90 days would be my focus as it would...

NO! This is against exchange rules. This makes it difficult for them to monitor open interest.

Volatility is such a broad term

Uncertainly of future price movement. When I traded, I compared the ATM option IVol with the S&P ATM vol and then monitored the option skew of individual stock options by looking at the difference between the .25 delta call and put vs each other and the ATM. To me, this reflects market...

Bitcoin future (BRR) at IB, 200,000 USD margin requirement?

For comparison, the CME Bitcoin symbol is BTC. BBR is the I assume this is the same contract. It is not 1 bitcoin but for 5. The CME sets initial margin at 44%. As an example, if the settlement price yesterday was 11,380. 11380 * 5 = 56,900. 56,900* 44% = $25,036 per BTC. At Wedbush, they double...

A long/short position in the same future, no. Not in the US with our tax laws, serves NO purpose. There might be other countries where taxes have a loophole but since the CME does not allow it, that is that.

Various uses of E MICRO futures!

There are no long term Cap Gains in 1256 contacts in the US, so you might as well close or hedge with options if you fear a short term change in the market.

This has been in a number of threads. It serves no purpose to have a boxed position in futures even if the CME allowed it.

Various uses of E MICRO futures!

"Temp hedge to ES long term position?" Can you explain this one? Options would be a hedge. Selling MES vs ES is just closing the positions. Why not just sell out the ES? Remember, to most Futures traders, a 1 lot of ES is not a big position. I do not see traders selling 5 MES to get a 1/2...

How can the SEC tell if youre 'spoofing'

Well, I was with you on most of the comments until you hit this one. The NYSE moved from a specialist model to DMMs. There is one for every listed stock. They also make markets on many NASDAQ names too. https://www.nyse.com/market-model
