Why might oil prices be so high?

Every time I fill up the car I chuckle how ridiculously cheap gasoline is compared to rent or other expenses and how much people whine about it.

So who's nuts, the end of the world crowd or the market

I'm always in the "don't believe the hype" camp. I see a lot of paranoia in the media forecasting "the worst depression since 1930" but little confirmation in global equity markets.

European Retail Sales Drop by Record on Rising Costs

A day earlier: 'Other ECB policy makers including Axel Weber, Juergen Stark and Yves Mersch have suggested the bank's key rate of 4 percent may not be high enough to rein in inflation, which accelerated to a 16-year high of 3.6 percent in March.' LMAO

Why isn't the market going down?

What do you base this statement on? I couldn't find any (statistical) research that supports it. % change in oil prices and stock market returns seem to be uncorrelated historically. http://www.safehaven.com/article-2035.htm...

    CSCO earnings leaked this morning

What I think matters very little. All that matters are statistical facts. I don't see any historical statistical relationship between % change in crude oil and SP500 performance:

    CSCO earnings leaked this morning

I find not much strange about it. Crude went from $30 to $120 while the SP500 went from 950 to 1400 in the last five years. There is little evidence that they would be negatively (or positively) correlated.

This is the last move for Crude --shaping up just like the wheat trade!

Let's recap: 1. You're long DUG - an ultra short Oil/Gas ETF - averaging into a broken chart making new 52w lows. 2. You're long some airline, which is basically a synthetic oil put. Needless to say, another terribly broken chart. 3. Your long DCR which is a short crude oil ETN. Chart a...

    12:12PM, Who is Shorting NDX?

Do you have to start a new thread every day? Why not start a "NDX SHORTING" journal and post your trades there daily?

Warren Buffet wall to wall CNBC. Guy is a jerk.

His company outperformed the SP500 by 150% since 2000. Not too shabby IMO

Banks Are Tightening Credit Bank Survey Shows, Plus Scary Greenspan quote

Interestingly, the SP500 experienced a shallow drawdown of something like 18-19% in the fall of 1990 and made new all time highs by December. The real world economic recovery took much longer.
