    SpreadProfessor Clients - Thanks !

Again, ask PJM but my sense is that a few hundred thou won't suffice. I could be wrong.

I'm pretty confident in saying that bal-day or next day capital clearing requirements would be very rich as compared to futures (maybe you would be better served to call PJM ISO directly?). And you are competing against very well informed counterparties. I've seen bal day in August go from...

This was your OP for this thread. Start still another thread and call a new high, perhaps ?

A lot. Like millions - and you'd have to find a clearing firm that will back you. Big ask. When I did those products I had a $12M line of credit and cleared through an Investment Bank ( and I was spreading against Nat Gas Swaps so I had some margin offset credit ). In 2008 the liquidity...

Bond Trader Bets $10 Million That Volatility Revival Is Imminent

To buy very short term vol premium in of all things rates like that is indeed weird.

Energy and Interest Rates are the spaces where I have commercial and institutional experience. Starting in the early 2000's I wanted to branch out more, and develop a trading model that would work on any spread combination. I'm glad that I have developed that ability, as energy and the rates...

My indicator package picks up on seasonal price action. I have found that mean reversion as a primary trading strategy has not been successful over extended periods of time with the one notable exception being a highly correlated arbitrage (which is somewhat rare and perishable these days).

    Fibonacci Trading (without noise)

    1. Because under certain limited volatility and trading range extension circumstances I personally use and indeed teach Fibonacci for targeting. 2. I have first hand knowledge as an actual Institutional / HF / Commercial Trader during my career that Fibonacci technical levels mean very little...

    Fibonacci Trading (without noise)

Having been an institutional trader (commercial) and a HF trader I do not agree with your premise of the widespread commonality of Fibonacci disciples among those ilk (at least in energy, commodities, and interest rates) but by all means please continue.

Is it better to avoid Exotic currency pairs? Why?

I am NOT an FX trader in any way shape or form. I would just simply say that every time I have tried to trade a spread with spotty unreliable liquidity it was a shit show. On the floor, traders used to call these trades "Roach Motels" (you can get in but you can't get out).

    Bund Futures

Here's my 2 cents FWIW. YMMV. Well, that's why Eurex has been trying to bring along the CONF, BTP, and Buxl markets with mixed results. Those DV01's would work well with the Bund with the exception of the Buxl. Liquidity is the big issue. I am not a big believer in Bund vs ZN. (I have...

Traders hedge WITH indices and ETFs all the time. They're an ideal hedge vehicle and that fact accounts for a great deal of their ongoing rolled volume in the case of index futures. If a trader wants to isolate a specific idea about the relative valuation of individual names or smaller subsets...

Ray Cahnman is a spread trader. Don Wilson is a spread trader. Those guys made hundreds of millions of dollars just spread trading - and built impressive trading firms along the way. I always thought that the purpose of trading was to make money, and not prove one's manhood.

Tell you what, sporto. Call up any Chicago, London, or NYC futures prop firm principal and ask them who their biggest, most consistent producing traders are in terms of strategy. You can also do a search here on ET. The answer is pretty overwhelming.

Well, the smaller hedge funds are by all published appearances performing much better than the large familiar funds, and they are on a multi-year trend of experiencing inflows. From what I can gather, the larger funds can't seem to retain talent, and they have really high overhead costs that...

Hedging does completely take away risk. A commercial hedge is another topic for another time. The purpose of a speculative hedge is to capture the divergence or convergence between highly correlated instruments whilst minimizing to the best extent practicable the delta directionality effects...
