During client meetings this week, we came across a few examples where the proprietary study takes the client out of the trade before our stop-loss is hit ( we set the stop-loss and profit targets at trade entry time ).

How To Go From Retail To Institutional Trader

Higher relevant college degree, apply for an analyst or trading assistant position ( those positions are much more frequently posted on career websites ); then, work your way up from there. My 2 cents. Just an opinion.

    Ag trade ideas

Anybody here use Growing Degree Days as a metric ? I started following it a few months ago for US Cotton.

Well, just keep in mind that if big funds or commercials are liquidating perfectly reasonable positions in terms of fundamentals and common sense - they are likely raising cash to meet margin calls elsewhere or to redeem customer funds. The market is what the market is.

I received an email from an ET Member, who is not a client, and he wanted to relate to me his principal observation at a recent job interview with a Chicago proprietary futures trading firm. In his words, and I quote: "While I was there I had an opportunity to interact with a number of the...

HFT at the CME - rigged to those that can pay

Nitro, props to you on being honest and fair with yourself and your perceptions. One thing that I think the CME has consistently done right is to try NOT screw over the smaller independent traders. Eurex did it, and their declining volume shows it.

HFT at the CME - rigged to those that can pay

Is there any anecdotal or first-hand accounts of traders having to "chase" the market to get a fill in terms of electronic futures ? In other words, are traders or brokers being front run in electronic futures markets like they were on the stock exchanges ? This is different than spoofing -...

Average daily volume in the bond pit during the 1980s ?

Indeed, Charlie D was and still is a true legend. And an excellent correlations trader. Your post might deserve a postscript in terms of CBOT continued history into the later 1990's and early 2000's. The CBOT membership and the board ( composed of Full Seat Holders ) stifled electronic...

Well, Glencore is a speculative commercial like Louis Dreyfus, et al. They are trading around a physical inventory book. They carry a great deal of physical but they are not producers or users per se. And IMHO that is the conundrum - it makes dynamic hedging very difficult. A commercial that...

Chart Analysis: Continuous vs Nearest Futures?

Some charting packages offer a "consolidated" future contract option as well. It makes some of the adjustments that were described above. Not all, but some.

As a postscript to the post above citing a Bloomberg article re: Glencore profits and commodities prices, on August 19 Bloomberg reported that Glencore first-half profit dropped 56% as raw material prices slid. Again, commercials whose business models require them to hold physical inventory are...

    CBOT Dec 2015 ICS Ratios

The CBOT Treasuries are physically fungible contracts. The "cheapest to deliver" underlying into the futures contract can change from expiry to expiry. Consequently, the hedge ratios, especially for the shorter maturities, will change. If you don't have access to a Bloomberg terminal, or know...
