Should I Keep Trading? Help/Advise need

Here's all the advice you need. No one can do it for you. Once you grind out 1, 2, and 3 for a year or two (or more), you then get to face the Mount Everest of 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, at which point if you follow 9 diligently, 10 will follow naturally and lead you to great success.

    Poll: Hershey vs. Covel

Jack is brilliant. It matters not whether he trades, wins, loses, owes taxes, or lives with his girlfriend. He's brilliant.

Jefferies (JEF) and sovereign debt exposure

I've been long with insiders since September lows and the past few days have been interesting to say the least. My net exposure to JEF is insignificant. Really, it is. I mean, really! At what price are you short? :D :D :D

How on earth are the indicies markets all so extremely bullish??!

As iceman knows, I was a buyer in the retirement accounts when the blood ran in the streets in August and October. It's been an interesting ride (especially JEF over the past few days), but net quite positive.

How on earth are the indicies markets all so extremely bullish??!

Tsing Tao nailed it: algos Institutional traders/investors (which move the markets, not us itty bitty retail traders) have well-researched programmed trading in place to initiate buy/sell orders based on a mixture of fundamental and technical levels. Price prints patterns that repeat more...

Need advice on breakout stop placement

I only trade breakouts on instruments that have a history of strong breakouts (i.e. CL, currency futures like 6E, and high priced highly liquid momentum stocks like AAPL). Do the homework for the instrument(s) you trade, determining what kind of patterns lead to the strongest breakouts, the...

    CL Redux

It all worked out, TD. I got back, saw that I missed my proper entry, so I chased an entry, thought for sure I'd been suckered in because it stopped cold the minute I bought and began ticking back down (I swear I could hear price laughing at me), when suddenly as if in a dream the thing turned...

At some point I believe you have to do that exercise to prove to yourself that you have the mental fortitude to trade the plan you tested on paper/demo. I'd been with a group of Skypers all day every day for a few months, had honed a strategy from the ground up during that time, transforming it...

That mind set comes out of a lot of frustration (and reading Trading in the Zone at least three times). Those questions (Is it a real signal? Should I filter it? Should I take it? What if it is a loser?) are your mind's way of protecting you from risk. I imagine it's genetic programming to...

CLM's got an edge, no doubt. In the very brief time I've spoken with him, he's demonstrated a solid edge. That's the 1% inspiration. Now he just needs to train himself to trust it and ignore all the noise. That's the 99% perspiration.

Yeah, I love the after the fact analysis where you can see the pivot highs/lows and then retrofit the perfect entries/exits in the post-market analysis. "How about, setting a range of 15 points from the high or low as the "optimum" range for this market, and play with continuous reversals."...

    ES Journal Archive (2011)

The market rewards what is difficult. Everyone wants to pick perfect pivot level entries (tops/bottoms) because they feel safe, you can have the world's tiniest stop loss. But if you don't get filled, then you feel like you missed the perfect sink-proof boat. Well you can either place your...

clm outlined at the start of this journal precisely the problems faced by every trader who has defined an edge and developed a plan, and then struggles with it at the hard right edge, often for such a long time that s/he doubts hir sanity. CL can be a bit volatile. This is why it's attractive...

Ironically, CL's price action is more precise than ever around levels of indecision (designated by a flat 20 EMA or "barb wire" in Al Brooks' terminology). Once you get to know it well, you develop an uncanny ability to predict its moves in this environment. Good stuff for scalping. TD...

When trading in the direction of a well-defined trend, I suggest leaving the initial stop in place and trailing the 5-min bars if you're concerned about taking a full loss once it's moved in your favor. Counter-trend, I almost always move my stop to b/e after more than 10 ticks, UNLESS the b/e...

Dejavu, glad to see you're doing well, and very glad to see that your leverage limits (buying power) keep you in the game over the long haul. Win rate is very important to you and I fully understand that. Win rate was very important to me for a long time, but for me (not for everyone)...

    Perfect Shorting Opportunity

OK, guys, play nice...even though EMR and I have little in common politically, I respect him (assumption) as a trader and I want to evaluate market analyses different from my straight up PA/TA stuff. In the range, I felt there were clean fade zones (and I've been swing trading stocks off...
