Is cash no longer fully insured in an IB account ?

Stupid question since my account is with IB UK. Does someone know what is the best with a 100 K$ account at IB UK where you only trade US commodities? Thanks a lot.

Is cash no longer fully insured in an IB account ?

Reading this thread, it seems that it is better to sweep funds for securities traders and not to sweep for big commodities traders, but what would you do with a 100 K$ IB account where you only trade commodities? Would you sweep to possibly benefit from SIPC coverage( in case they don't go...

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

LOL... I guess he is aware now. He got the inverse of what he was looking for by saying France should go alone. He thought socialists would say "That's a brave attitude" but they are more like" I hope Hollande will be more pragmatic". Don't forget Strauss-Kahn should have won this year as a...

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

I have never really traded french stocks actively, so I don't know if banks and MMs were exempted, like in the UK. I would bet it is the case. However, l'impot de bourse in its former form was completely moronic, you just had to divide your order to be exempted( < 7600 Euros I guess )...

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

Apparently, Sarko wants to reinstitute "l'impot de bourse" on stocks before the elections and wait for Merkel and others to tax derivatives.

There will be tremendous pressure where it counts, i.e BNP Paribas and Société Générale... They can't just elect domicile in the UK for their trading units like that. They will have a simple choice to do, Either try to continue trading and relocate but they will be in constant legal battle...

You know what is funny. Sarkozy repealed in 2008 "l'impot de bourse" on french stocks. What was the justification at the time? "It puts France at a competitive disavantage against other countries". All pre elections political gesture...

This word have opposite meaning in Europe and in the US...LOL.I didn't understand it neither at first. To be a liberal in the US is to be FOR government intervention in the economy. Some speaker for Merkel just said that France has to calm down and they are still trying to promote it at the...

    Transaction tax in germany

Yes but a BMW doesn't hold Germany debtor of a liability like a german bund does. It's tricky. The more I think about it, the more I realize how hard this crap will be to enforce. It won't just be a loss of revenues, it will be a straight humiliation at every level. The funniest part will be...

    Transaction tax in germany

It's generally the firm creating the index( S§P, Jefferies, Goldman...) that sells it to the exchange. But I don't know if countries can caim intellectual property on it.

    Transaction tax in germany

Hard to enforce I agree but they are claiming the intellectual property of products. How do you hide that your products is replicating bund? It will be a source of constant tensions between countries and ( surprise ) a new source of spending for France and Germany. This new level of bureaucracy...

    Transaction tax in germany

Apparently, the new franco german proposition will exactly target this kind of behaviour. They want to tax every "french" or "german" issued products, like bund or CAC40. So ultimately Eurex won't be able to move or CME won't be able to list a non taxed CAC40 futures. So the bund, bobl ... will...

Yes, it is time to make every institutions aware of what France and Germany are trying to do. The latest development( taxing Eurozone originated products everywhere in the world ) seems more logical to me than the part about taxing every transaction as long there is one european involved...
