    Ensign for IB-datafeed

Ensign uses free sources for backfill. Is it reliable? I guess we'll see. This is only the beta version, but I like what I'm seeing. :)

    Ensign for IB-datafeed

I'm just guessing, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's in the works. Eventually, it'll be built in, and will probably leave an arrow or something on the chart, so you can see immediately where your fill was. And, I wouldn't be surprised if in later versions, the software will place the...

Are pivots useful ? a statistical response

Also, here's a shot of funkys' spreadsheet so you can watch the mid points tomorrow. I'm not sure why, but funkys' R3 and S3 don't jive with my calculator... I'd do em by hand, but I'm too lazy...hehe

Are pivots useful ? a statistical response

Here's a new shot of fridays pivots for the ES...thanks JackDaniel! Most people use the previous days (High+Low+Close/3). These are the main pivots you want to watch, because the majority use these. Some like to use the previous days (High+Low+the next days open/3) and, the previous...

Are pivots useful ? a statistical response

Sorry, my fault. I just went to the link goforwand provided on page 7. I just noticed the the quotes are to 7:00 pm. So, you're numbers are right. Personally, I would only use the regular session, (9:30 to 4:15 EST)and I believe the majority of floor traders do, too. Good Eye!...

    short strangles

Oh okay, so a point is a handle. I wasn't sure. So, my strangle would require much more than $20,000 margin. So, for $20,000 I get 50 handles (or points) and that would be a 1080.00 call and a 980.00 put, which gives me about $800 premium if both expire worthless. And that's about a...

    short strangles

Sorry, forgot they don't sell 1039.00...hehe (it's been awhile) Thanks for the link...premiums look nice :D

    short strangles

That's not bad...sorry to bug you, but I don't get option quotes anymore. Right now, the S&P is around 1029.00. So, if I wanted to sell a 1039.00 call and a 1019.00 put, what kind of premium are we talking about. Thanks (November)

    short strangles

What's the typical margin requirement for writing a strangle on Sp futures options? Thanks

    short strangles

Selling out of the money strangles on the OEX is the best strategy in my opinion. But, it's a rich mans game. I don't know what the margin requirements are now, but 10 years ago when I wanted to do this, my broker required $50,000 in my account per strangle.

    A New Era in Papertrading

Right, emotion is definitely a factor. I'll never forget my first real trade. My brow was sweating, my hands were shaking and I wrote down what I needed to tell my broker so I'd be sure and say the right thing...lol Fortunately, it gets easier the more you do it. Sort of like doing that...

    A New Era in Papertrading

I think everybodys' right...hehe Paper trading has it's pros and cons. Probably not as useful to stock traders,(uptick rule, getting partial fills, etc...)as S&P or ES traders. It's like hitting golf balls on the range. A good place to practice and try new ideas (without the pressure)...

    A New Era in Papertrading

I haven't tried it yet, (couldn't get it to work with my metaserver software) but, it sounds like the developer has gone out of his way to make the simulator as realistic as possible. Here's a quote from his website..."NinjaTrader includes a state of the art order simulator. The...

    A New Era in Papertrading

Man, you're not kidding. With the arrival of the internet, everything changed. Education, lower commissions, simulators, etc... When I first started out,(about 15 years ago) when we got a signal on the chart, we counted to 30. 1K, 2K, 3K, etc... Then whatever the market was at...

    52 week high list

Seems like a lot of people having problems with IB quotes the last few days. The last few days I've been getting periods when quotes seem to freeze for about 5 seconds, then I'll get this surge of 50 or so ticks. Oh well, I guess you get what you pay for...

    52 week high list

Just my opinion, but you may be missing a lot of opportunities on the short side...that is stocks making new lows. Of course, I realize it's not "American" to short...hehe :D

    Are pivots useful ?

I don't know if you've read this or would be interested, but I found it interesting. Basically, he did a test on the pivot points and noted what usually occured when price opened in a certain zone. His study might help you to find the best stop loss and entry points. The link is to his...
