Is there any disadvantage to just staying a sole proprietor versus setting up an llc or corporation? I do have independent contractors that work for me as well from home in several different states.

Back in the 80's and 90's, brokers were charging as high as 5% per trade. You probably still can, but only a moron would pay that much nowadays with discount brokers around. So if you opened a $10 million account, you were able to make 250k in commissions, assuming a 50% commission split.

Out of curiosity, if you lose your home to a foreclosure, does the bank sell it and keep any amount over the loan amount? For example, if you owe 500k on your loan, bank forecloses on you, and sells it for 600k. Do they keep the additional 100k or do they give it back to you?
