What's the status on private accounts?

Most pundits feel that Bush's initiative for private accounts is dead in the water. With supreme court nominations coming up and low popularity ratings in the polls, he is not likely to push too hard on this right now. Interestingly, if we have a run up in equities, mom & pop america might...

    Long Bond Reintroduction

Yes, you also are right. BTW your analysis was well-considered.

    Long Bond Reintroduction

Yes, I think that was the main impetus for the reintroduction of the long bond.

    Long Bond Reintroduction

Anyone have any opinions on this? Will this help to solve the "conundrum'?

    YUAN Revaluation = Bullish!!

But things ARE looking like there is only a finite amount of time before things DO become clear. Trade in & out and keep it liquid, kids. IMHO might be a nice optty to buy bonds for longer term purposes if you missed the last run up.

    YUAN Revaluation = Bullish!!

Thank you... Give that man a kewpie doll! 100% correct. Smoke and mirrors to palliate US politicians from enacting trade sanctions.

    CNOOC a threat?

So, let's sell them a few of our non-strategic assets. They will learn how to run a real company (in a non-communist way) and will have political & economic reasons not to go to war with us (i.e. important politicos will lose their shirts in a war with the US, so they will oppose it). Sounds...

China - Main index touching 8 year lows, is this the moment to enter?

What's hot? China is! With GDP growth of 8-10% a year, you would think that their markets are just booming, right? Better get in now before you're priced out of the market with whatever you have left over after refinancing your home. So, go ahead and buy one of the new china ETF's - you...

Will inflation always bring about a lower dollar?

The answer is... it depends. If inflation remains under control (i.e. CPI at 3.0% p.a. or less), and the economy remains moving ahead at 3% or more GDP growth, and the fed makes only 1 or 2 more rate hikes, then, as investors around the world join the quest for yield, the dollar would...

    Inflation vs deflation in US?

I'm starting to think along those lines as well. If deflation happens, it MUST be followed by hyper-inflation, particularly if the US loses its reserve currency status. Once that happens, there's just no reason to play fair any more.

    BAC and KRB

You can flame all you want, but: 1. Thrift is a virtue that may not be attractive to a high consumption lifestyle, but when push comes to shove, you might wish that you had a little more assets and a little less credit. Credit can dry up *instantly*. Assets you need to spend down...

China tells U.S. not to meddle in oil deal

Japan is probably the only nation besides Australia who's invasion would necessitate a WWIV with American involvement. (cold war was WWIII)

China tells U.S. not to meddle in oil deal

So the Chinese Take back Taiwan, and maybe we allow them to annex South Korea if they take over North Korea first. One major problem solved for us. Chip fabs in those countries need to be duplicated first elsewhere besides the china block for our ownnational security interests... hope the...

If you pay off your balance and don't let these guys suck you in, you should be just fine. Too many banks as there are, and MBNA is a bad player anyway. Merger with Bank of America might take away some of the malignancy.

    Automation

Transportation & Driving - if mapquest can tell you where to go, why can't a computer-controlled taxi take you there, particularly if all other vehicles on the road are computer controlled. Safer too- everyone always goes the speed limit, and you are guaranteed of getting there the fastest way...
